adjusting to daycare- question

First, thank you for your tips earlier this week.  This is week one of daycare and it has been okay, but I keep telling myself that it will get better.  I wanted to know how you dealt with this, if it happened when your LO was adjusting.. no naps.

Ive been letting her nap when I get her, from 4-5.  Bedtime is normally 7.   THe other night when I did this she slept for a half hour at bedtime and then cried for 2 hours.  Any suggestions of what I should do? I dont want to mess her schedule up, but she cant even keep her eyes open. We had such a great schedule prior to this:(

Re: adjusting to daycare- question

  • do you think i should just not let her nap and put her down for bed earlier?

my earlier post was about how emotional and hard this is :/

  • One thing that works for us is to spend some time outside while it's still light out.. When we were on maternity leave, we took a lot of walks and hung out outside, which doesn't happen as much at daycare.. Sunshine is good for mommy and good for baby.

I knew I shouldve done that, but I elt so guilty that she had a bad day (didnt eat either) so I put her down for this late nap.. which Im now wondering if I shouldnt of.

If she's still really fussy, we'll still let her go down for a nap, but not too long - usually 20-30 minutes. You'll spend a LOT of time doing trial and error over the next few weeks, but eventually, you'll both adapt to the new normal. We're still adjusting over here!

If at all possible, I'd try to keep your weekends similarly structured to your weekdays.. We had family visiting this weekend, and bed time and nap times kinda went out the window.. we're paying for it now! We usually have roughly the same wake and sleep times on the weekends, and I think that helps keep us on track during the week too.

  • Good point... She does half day so our mornings are more consistent.. But I will do that

How old is your DD?  I would move up her bedtime earlier and skip the nap all together.  That seems kind of late for a nap and could be messing with her nighttime sleep.  It's an adjustment, but you'll figure it out.  It may take a few weeks.
