We took out a loan against my husband's retirement account. He is military and the retirement is a Thrift Savings Plan (TSP). The interest rate is 1.9% or something like that and the interest we pay is paid back to ourselves in the form of a contribution to our retirement. There was a $10K limit to this so we had to come up with the rest of the money ourselves.

Check with your employer(s) to see if they do any type of matching for adoption. Some companies do and that can help with your costs.
