When we went out of town last month, we were asked for proof of dd2's age since she had no seat. We flew all the time with dd1 and this was never asked. You may want to have a birth certificate.
We're flying Southwest and they require it. She told me to have a shot record or copy of the birth certificate when I called to add E to my ticket.
We've flown a handful of other times when DS1 was under 2 in lap and we were asked for proof of age every time. Even at 7 weeks old.... It doesn't matter how old the infant is, it's just a requirement for many airlines to verify.
