I'm beginning to consider the name Amelia and wanted to get some thoughts...
First, is this an overly popular name? I'm ok with it being on trend but I'd rather avoid my daughter being one of many with the same name in her class.
Second, I'd like to use the nickname Mila (pronounced Meal-la; like the actress Mila Kunis) but given the spelling of Amelia I think I'd spell the nickname Mela? Would you pronounce that differently (like Mell-o; rhymes with Jello)?
I don't like other spelling of Amelia like Emilia, etc. because they have too many i's when paired with our last name.
Re: Nickname for Amelia
Amelia is a pretty name. It's relatively popular, and on the rise.
Mila (however you choose to spell it) works fine as a NN, too. I think it's intuitive enough. My favorite NN for Amelia is Millie, but that's not everyone's cup of tea.
I would pronounce Mela and Mila the same.
I would pronounce Mela Just like Me La. I think it's a suitable nn.
Amelia lends itself to a lot of nns so I'd say pick the one you want and make it known that's the nn she'll go by.
I have an Amelia. Her NN is Mia. I met an Amelia whose NN was Mila. It was cute.
ETA: I've only met one other Amelia IRL. It is not super popular in my area.
Mila
Lia
Mia
Amy
Mela
I plan to go with Mia.
I haven't heard anyone is my area with this name.. But people are saying its becoming popular
