Our daughter has been on soy formula since she was 4 weeks old. The doctor said she would likely outgrow the allergy and be able to start drinking cow's milk when she is a year old. So does that mean that we shouldn't introduce dairy products like yogurt or butter before then? I make our daughter's baby food and wanted to try baking apples instead of boiling them and the recipe calls for a little butter in the core of the apple. I also wanted to give her frozen yogurt drops when she's ready to try finger foods. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Soy formula and introducing dairy?
DD1 had a terrible milk based formula allergy. We were told by our pedi to test dairy based products, as they are made through different processes, so it's not exactly the same type of dairy in found in WCM. She could handle 1 yogurt a week, 2 cheese sticks a week, and butter whenever.
When we hit a year, we didn't necessarily outgrow the allergy. It can happen at different ages, or not happen at all. Pedi told us to try at a year, and if she had a reaction, stop for three months, try again. Repeat the process until we see the allergy go away or until two. Then try it yearly, and stick to the alternative of our choice. DD was on almond milk until 18 months, when she finally outgrew her allergy. Now, she is a fiend for WCM.

I would definitely try some dairy products then if I were you. See how sensitive she is, or if she even is at all. I had to do a lot of trial and error to really find out what and how much my DD could handle. I really didn't want to be giving my DD too many soy products, and I was happy to find she had a slight tolerance for dairy products, just not WCM based formula.
