Babies: 6 - 9 Months

No more bucket

Okay, be warned that this is one of those probably dumb questions but I am a FTM so bear with me:
DS is outgrowing his infant seat so we need to transition to a convertible car seat soon. What do you do with LO while shopping? Do they sit okay in the seat of the cart at this age? He just seems kind of small for that, although he does sit unsupported. I'm not huge into baby wearing so curious what people are doing?

Re: No more bucket

  • My son is 7 months, and can sit in the shopping cart with a cart cover and he is good, he kinda falls over a little bit here and there, but i put a blanket around him so he has some extra support.

  • I tried once w/DS sitting in the shopping cart with a cover, but he's constantly leaning over one way and the other trying to reach things, and the whole shopping was so stressful because I was worried about him.  Now I just put him in the Ergo when I go shop.  He still tries to reach things but I know he's snug and secure in the Ergo.

This! We have this exact one and has been using it since DD was 4 months old - about a month before she could sit up on her own. She LOVES being able to sit in the cart. I couldn't keep her in the car seat after she was about a month old and she doesn't like to babywear very much either, so this works perfect for us. The pillows are removable so it grows with the baby and can be used in a highchair. I just keep it in the trunk of my car with a couple toys attached so I always have it even for last minute shopping trips. Has been really convenient.

Can you provide a link? Or what is the product called and I will google it.
    Thanks!

  • We use a cart cover and put blankets around him for the first month or so. It was quite a pain to get set up but once he was sitting he loved it and made grocery shopping much more enjoyable.
If you do buy a cart cover, try to park next to the cart corral and put it on the cart before taking LO out of the vehicle.

  • If he can sit unsupported, he can definitely sit in a cart and in a high chair at a restaurant. As long as he can do these two things, you are OK without the bucket.

We have this one too. About half the time, LO falls asleep with her head on the pillow. It's very sweet.
