Small Car

Hello all!  DH and I are expecting our first at the end of this year and trying to figure out what type of car seat might work.  DH drives a Tiburon, which has a virtually non-existent back seat.  Does anyone here drive a car that is the same, or similar in size?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Re: Small Car

  • I do not have any advice but I would recommend just going down to your local Babies R' Us or Buy Buy Baby if you have them and have the sales person take different ones out to the car to see if they fit. We had to do that with DH's Jeep and due to that our list got narrowed down quickly.

I believe the Cybex Aton is the smallest infant seat on the market front to back. The Graco Snugride 30 and Chicco Keyfit are also quite small and good for small backseats.

  • I had a small 2 door sports car and nothing fit and allowed us to have any leg room up front. We have the Chicco Keyfit seat. Had to suck it up and trade in the sports car for a SUV. You can probably fight to get it to fit behind the passenger seat but no adult will be able to fit up front. However, we really only use one car so if you have a second larger car you can probably get away with it. Also look at if a stroller will fit. Nothing fit in my car so when we went SUV shopping we test drive every car to our house and borrowed our neighbors stroller to see if it would fit in the trunk. It was hilarious to watch the GMC salesman fight to jam it into the trunk.
  • For infant seats, Cybex Aton first, then Keyfit 30, Cosco Comfy Carry Elite. The car seat lady just did a comparison of this for leg room on her website. The Comfy Carry Elite isn't on her list as it only goes to 22lbs, but it's small and not expensive.
  • I second going to BRU or another baby store that will let you try the seats in your car. I have an extended cab pickup with a backseat that is very narrow front to back. When we were looking for a convertible seat we had to try every one to find one that had enough of the base sitting on the seat to be safe. For a convertible we ended up going with a Britax. Good luck, I hope you are able to find a seat that fits!
  • Thanks to everyone for the advice.  I think we will just get one for my bigger car and only let the kiddo ride in there.  Sorry it's taken to long to respond, I just forgot where I had made this post!!!  Stupid pregnancy induced stupidity :)
