A reason to cry...

Please say a prayer for Camp Scherman tonight! The fire in Idllywild is inching closer and has crested the mountain heading down into camp, all the girls and staff left on their own on Monday and all are safe at home with their families including so many of my close friends and their daughters!

I can't imagine this amazing Girl Scout Camp burning to the ground =( I can't stop watching the news for updates and crying.....I was able to attend camp as a little girl and just recently was at Camp Scherman during this pregnancy (which I thought I lost while at camp). My heart goes out to all the staff and people that have loved our camp since its humble beginnings!

I know where that is! My parents lived there until just after I was born. I live in the Temecula area now.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and all the camps and memories they hold up in Idyllwild. I work at a camp in Julian, have been evacuated 3x, and in 2007 we lost 18 buildings and 80 acres to a fire. It is a scary scary thing. The one thing I will say is that you have to wait and see. Do not believe everything the news says: The major networks are notorious for passing on unconfirmed information that is often worse and scarier than the truth. We were getting so many phone calls here last week with the Chariot Fire from people who'd heard the fire was in Julian, or that Julian was evacuating, and I heard the news report two sites as total losses that are actually 95 percent fine. So please, know that we are here for you and sending so many positive thoughts that way. And above all, let's be grateful for all the firefighters and emergency personnel. What they do is mindblowingly amazing.

I went to Camp Scherman as a girl scout several times as a kid. I still have so many wonderful memories. I hope it will be okay.

There's a great fire resource on FB that essentially crowdsources from locals and emergency scanners. I've found it helpful, accurate and reassuring. I'm on mobile and can't paste but if you search for Brush Fire Party Line Riverside, you should find it. It's categorized as a place.

As of today our camp still stands...the hot shots and fire units are using camp as a base. Our resident mant. guy "Yogi" is with them helping defend our camp. Our horses where evacuated this morning and the fire has been said to have stalled for the moment right above trails end where many homes are located. They are waiting to see what warmer weather and winds bring later this afternoon.

Thank for all the kind words....Placentia Service Unit has already started a "Heart Attack" campaign....we are sending the firemen and Yogi heart shaped thank you cards!!
