Anyone in sales?

I don't go on a lot of sales calls, but I'm scheduled for one in 2 weeks. I'll be 27 weeks pregnant and its pretty obvious.

Do I say something about being pg or just ignore it? It is so awkward. I would be part of the prospect's on going support team if they choose us as their vendor.

Re: Anyone in sales?

  • I'm in medical sales and account retention and am currently 30 weeks pregnant. My heaviest period of sales has actually been throughout this pregnancy. I wouldn't bother mentioning that you are pregnant if it will be obvious as people will probably bring it up at some point. However, when I have brought on a new client account I typically cover what steps I am taking to ensure a continuation of service during my leave. I have an assistant that handles my clients during vacations/leave and I typically introduce him, his background, as well as request a convenient time to get him acquainted with any important contacts and/or procedures in their office. Not sure what type of sales you're in, but since I'm medical, my clients typically rely on me to resolve immediate, highlystressful problems that have implications involving patient care, so the fact that I am pregnant is a major concern of theirs, despite being happy for me and meaning well. After explaining my plan to ensure coverage, I can visibly see the relief on the faces. I hate to admit it, but as a final failsafe, my clients also have my personal cell phone number in the event that they are not receiving proper care in my absence....that's the type A in me though. Overall, I've found that prospective sales accounts do not really care as long as their needs continue to be met.
