So my GD diet doesn't seem to be working 100 percent and my doctor wasn't happy with my after meal numbers, which leads me to assume they are going to suggest I take insulin.. I have such a fear of needles, it got better with this pregnancy because of blood work but there's no way I can do it myself....
Basically I'm wondering is there an alternative? An oral medication that may have the same effect as the insulin? I was reading a little bit about metformin, and was wondering if anyone is taking this for GD and is it helping?
Thanks in advance!!
Re: Is there an alternative?
my OB prescribes Glyburide if GD cannot be controlled with diet. I would talk to your OB about what they recommend and why.
I know there are girls on here on Metformin, Glyburide and Insulin depending on what their OB recommends and how hard it is to control their GD.

How often are you taking Glyburide? Is it an oral medication?

Good to know, thank you!
I was diagnosed at 24 weeks and have been taking 1.25 mg of Glyburide at bedtime since the diagnosis.
It is a very small dose to control my fasting numbers. I have been able to control the GD through diet otherwise.
Talk to your OB if you are concerned about the oral medications passing to the baby. My OB is on top of the latest studies regarding GD and outcomes. Your OB should be able to tell you what they recommend and give you a specific answer as to why.
