At what age?

At what age?

Out of curiosity what age do you think a little boy or girl should stop going into the bathrooms of the opposite sex? Usually I see it more with boys going with their mom into the ladies room. What do you think is age appropriate or does it depend on location and the kids maturity level? Thoughts?

I'd say 5ish, unless you're in a real shady place. Never thought about this really.

What about that transgender kid in CO? He's allowed to use any bathroom he wants. Or she.

I would also think 5 or 6 around the age they would start kindergarden and have to use the boys or girls room.

Maybe the kid who is transgendered goes by how he or she identifies him or herself? Okay so if the kids dresses like a girl and considers himself a girl he goes into the girls room? I don't know I am just guessing.

This was the controversy. Parents were mad because she was using the girls bathroom, which she had been doing all year. Now she has to use a special gender neutral bathroom. The parents didn't want her in the bathroom with their girls. As far as age, I think it depends on where you are. If I had a son, I'd still take him into the women's bathroom with me until 5 or 6.

Wait did the school build another bathroom? I completely missed this whole thing.

They won the case. Coy can use any bathroom at the school.

  • I think around 5, but it depends on the circumstances, like the child's maturity, and the location. A huge airport bathroom vs a small target bathroom makes a difference in my opinion.

DS is 9 and still goes in the bathroom with me sometimes. He does go by himself some places and if we're out as a family he'll go with DH or another male family member. I think the bigger issue is if I have to go. I don't want to leave him in a store while I go to the bathroom. I have also seen guys go with their daughters into the women's bathroom, which is probably a lot more appropriate than a girl going in the guys.

Wait, really? When H takes DD to the bathroom, it's always to the mens. I've never seen a Dad take his DD into the women's and if I did, it would weird me out! I mean, it makes zero sense.
