Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Need help with daycare

Hi Everyone-

LO turned 3 months this past Sunday. He is in his second week of daycare and not doing too well. Last week was fine but this week he is not wanting to take his bottles (past history of tongue tie so we can't breastfeed and he is very sensitive on the bottle). Yesterday he tool in 6 oz all day and today 8oz. I taught the daycare how to give him the bottle and what to do if he starts clicking on the bottle. They say that he is refusing the bottle turning his head, etc. I am worried about him getting an aversion to the bottle at this point as he is very sensitive orally.

Also, he has cried out in his sleep these last two nights which is unusual for him.

Anyone have any advice or have this happen to them?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Need help with daycare

  • My LO has moments where he doesn't like to take a bottle. Usually it's during a Wonder Week time when he is just learning so much and is totally distracted. There is a Wonder Week right around 12 weeks (give or take a few weeks) that I found to be immensely challenging. So that could be it. Maybe day care could try turning him away from distracting people and objects. I found that to be helpful.

Crying out in sleep starts happening around this time period and is very normal. I think they might start to dream or something around this time.

  • Is he refusing the bottle at home too? If so, does he have cold symptoms too? Perhaps an ear infection? That would explain both behaviors. My son was also extremely resistant to bottles and sometimes he would refuse them if someone new gave him a bottle. I might ask day care about that...perhaps he preferred the technique of whoever was giving it to him last week. If that's the case, I would ask that they have that person give him his bottles to the extent possible. If it's strictly a bottle issue and not an ear infection, I definitely would want to figure it out right away too. My son gave up bottles entirely one day after a week of someone new giving him his bottle. Fortunately, he was 8 months old at the time and we were able to transition him to a straw sippy cup.
  • Thank you for replying.

He sometimes struggles with the bottle at home. I am going to request one one person feed him so that they get to know his cues and can manage him( with a backup ). Also, I did not realize the crying out while sleeping can be common around this age.
