GD food log

Do you keep track of what you eat? I have been using an App for 2 days, and I'm already annoyed with it too difficult to log foods when I cook. Do you find it necessary to keep track of what you eat? I just started this and my dietician said she doesn't need a food log. I just thought it would be helpful if my numbers where high.

Re: GD food log

  • I go back and record what carbs I had if I test high and put it in my little testing booklet.

  • I tracked mine via pen & paper (scanned a sheet from my booklet so I'd have more room to write). I found the apps were kind of a pain and it was easier to just jot things down.

  • I've had GD twice -- this time since about 10w -- and I do not track. I just look for patterns over time.

  • I do. It is handwritten and doesn't take much time at all.

  • Thanks everyone!  The app is nice to look up some store bought foods and restaurants, but it's a pain to record in on a daily basis.  I'll start writing everything down if I feel like I need to track it.

  • I only logged my first time with GD and for the first week this time. Even then it was just to show my team an example of what normally works for me and to make sure what worked the first pregnancy worked this time around.

  • I track the carbs that I eat, goal # of carbs for that meal/snack, as well as the time I take my sugars, the goal range I should be in and of course, the sugar number itself.  If you have a smart phone or easy access to a computer all day, I would highly recommend using google drive to make a google doc and record that way, or some other variation of being able to log your info into a portable/easily accessible medium.  Mine looks something like this (just imagine it in an excel doc):

      Fasting sugar (65-95)  Breakfast (1-2 carbs)  2 Hr (65-119)

    Date  time     #          time #

    7-17 6:59am     85    2 egg whites (1);                9:00 am     88

    waffle w/PB (1)

    Etc.....

I work full time, and being able to pop the numbers in my chart via my laptop or my smart phone is super easy - I would go nuts if I tracked every single little thing I ate!! But then again, I'm probably borderline OCD and making little charts and spreadsheets like this is a cheap thrill for me LOL. Hope this helps!

  • I keep a food log of everything I eat because I'm trying to find what foods work for me.  Anywho, I made a little spreadsheet on my computer and printed out and just write it out on there.  It has my blood sugar readings and what I ate prior to those readings and it makes it easy to track what's working and what isn't.

  • I was borderline diabetic before pregnancy so I have been keeping track of everything I eat for about a year and a half. I use an app called "Myfitnesspal". I have tried a lot of different methods but this is by far the best. It has all major restaurants in it and a "Scanner" so you can scan the barcodes on anything you eat. It also breaks down carbs, fat, cholesterol, sodium, sugars and charts progress.

That being said, its a serious commitment and probably not necessary for those of you in a normal weight range! Best of luck :)
