Question about amusement parks

I feel like I need to make an introduction all over again anytime I make a post because I mainly just comment. Hopefully someone remembers me haha.

My question: DH's half brother decided that for his birthday he wanted all siblings and their significant others to all go to six flags this Saturday. Now I know I obviously can't go riding roller coasters, but I'm wondering if there is anything there I CAN do besides eat and sweat. I'm also wondering if you ladies have any suggestions on keeping cool and hopefully keeping some swelling down since we will be walking around/ standing all day. It gets so hot I'm worried that even if I'm continuously drinking water I will probably still get dehydrated.

Re: Question about amusement parks

  • Ack, if it was me going, I'd be bringing a book and hiding in the AC all day.

Or, in all honesty, I'd be sitting the celebration out.  I'd hate to spend that much money to go somewhere and be uncomfortable all day, and I feel like I'd be seen as a party pooper for not wanting/being able to trudge around the park and be on my feet with everyone else all day.

  • I've never been, but do they have a water park area?  I image if they do and had a lazy river type thing, that might work out for you.  Try to drink plenty of water and take breaks throughout all the walking.
  • The thought of an amusement park makes me want to puke Ick!

I'm not sure how the weather is where you would be going but it is hot and humid as hell where I am .. I'd avoid it if you can..I'm also a big baby with the heat and avoid it at all costs!

ETA:  If they have a waterpark maybe you could hang out there..

  • My husband's family decided to do a family trip to Hershey this summer...I am in no way looking forward to this trip and spending the money.  I feel your pain.  The only thing that might save me at Hershey are their water rides.  Not that I can go on them but they do have some "pool" areas.  If anything I will park myself there.  If you have that option I'd go for it.  Otherwise try to find an air conditioned shop/concession where you can park yourself.

The problem is I'm viewed as a party pooper if I don't go. All five siblings and their significant others are going, and DH feels bad leaving me at home all day. It's a 2 1/2 hour drive without traffic so I'm dreading it.

They should understand you're pregnant and there is not much a pregnant person can do at an amusement park!  Hopefully you can find a way to stay cool, hydrated and comfortable Big Smile

  • I'm not sure if there is a pool/ water park but I will definitely have to look into that. The weather has been hanging in the 90's with some serious humidity so it will be awful.
  • Is there a water park maybe you could do a lazy river??

Is there an arcade?  I would hang out there as most likely it will have AC or at the very least be in the shade.

  • I would investigate the water areas there.  I kind of feel your pain, but I know there is a lazy river where we are going next week.

This is how I see it.

OP, are they going to view you as a party pooper if you need to take breaks (or hide out for the entire day) away from them, sitting in the shade, the lazy river, or an AC'd snack shop?

I don't think so, but I'm not sure. I know they want me to wait in lines with them and for them while they ride. The They being DH's family, DH fully expects me to hide somewhere. I know his step mom and older sister will be more understanding of how I'm feeling then others will.
  • I had this problem 4 weeks ago and went to sea world so I wouldn't be a party pooper. I regretted not staying home. It was so hot. I was miserable. My hubby went on rides and walked around looking for spots with ac. I think I spent about 30 bucks on just water bottles. I got sunburned and my feet got super swollen.

    I've only been to the one in Atlanta, and I haven't gone since college, but I honestly cannot think of anything you could do other than the merry go round, the old fashioned cars that drive themselves, maybe the monster plantation ride, and the arcade game stuff. And the heat would kill me. I would definitely be sitting it out, especially with it being so expensive these days. I can only imagine that I would resent having to go and wait around while everyone else got to do all of the fun stuff. It'd be one thing if you had another child you would spend most of the time with you know, in the kids area, keeping any eye on them, but to just go with a bunch of adults? No thank you.nbsp;

The one in ATL is where we are going I'm in Alabama . I fully expect to miserable and hot. If his half brother wasn't so nice I would definitely not go, but since it's his birthday and he loves his siblings so much I'll just have to suck it up. Thank you for the suggestions! I haven't been in at least 10 years so I'm not sure what is there and what isn't anymore.

This would be so boring for you!

At first I was kind of in the "suck it up and find a place to hang out" camp, but honestly if you're not really going to get to spend much of the day with them because they are riding roller coasters and whatnot, what is the point of going?

Except if it has a lazy river, because I would be all in for that business right now.

  • Could you meet up with them for dinner or something after? I would skip it. There is nothing you can do all day besides sit around and people watch.

  • Which 6 Flags? I know 6 Flags over Texas in Dallas doesn't have a water park... Or anything pregnant friendly for that matter. I had a free ticket and gave it away because I couldn't even think of standing in the hot lines all day.

ETA.... Just saw you said ATL. Not sure about that one.
  • Y'all should go to Six Flags White Water instead if they are determined that you go.  Otherwise, I'd be sitting out.

DD had her 8th birthday at the water park last weekend and it was fun.  If you go to White Water, at least you can stay cool.  We had 6 girls and then about 20 other family members.  I rode the lazy river, played with my nieces in the kids areas, and went down one slide.  :)  It was a slow slide on a big tube, so me and baby were good, though I'm sure I got some side eyes dragging my fat a s s up those steps to get to it.

  • Depends if there is a water area. If not, then don't go. The one by us will not allow a pregnant woman on any rides. Even the ones for the small children. We won tickets for the kids so I ended up going. Luckily a friend took them on rides while I sat in the water and stayed cool.

  • Honestly, standing all day in the sun and humidity sounds horrible. I understand wanting to be there for good family, but seriously standing in line in the sun for no reason other than to be company whole they wait, sounds like a pain, feet swelling, sweat dripping, expensive horrible pain. PLUS five hours in the car? Nope.

Call me a party pooper, I'd be out so fast your head would spin.

There is no water park there. There is a separate water park owned by 6 Flags but it is not in the amusement park. Hell to the no would I go. I seriously can't think of one thing you could do there, granted I haven't been in 5 years. Maybe ask if they want to do the water park instead. Do not feel obligated to go.

  • Thanks for the responses! Especially the unicorn gif. Lots to think about!
  • You'll just eat and sweat.  Even at the carnival the merry go round had a sign that said not to ride if you're pregnant.  And, I did go on one a couple months ago and another ride sort of like a Ferris wheel and felt awful afterwards.

My mom wants to take me, my sister, and our kids to a kids water park.. I can't do anything but want the kids to have fun.. Although my sister still convinced my mom to just have a day at the pool instead.  Obviously it's a different situation but I do not think you would be a party pooper by not going!  Even the walking alone would be rough!

  • a party pooper???  you are pregnant and cant do 90% of the stuff!!!   who cares what they think.

  • We went to a tiny amusement park (Sesame Place) and I got on one ride that sort of rocked you back and forth and side to side. Bad idea. It didn't even have the pregnant people warning and I've been on it before. After that I avoided all rides because I felt horrible the rest of the day.

I don't know that I would go, personally. But if I had to I'd make sure I knew where the first aid stations were (they usually will let pregnant people sit in them and cool off), take one of those water bottle fans and a ton of frozen bottles of water.

Ditto.  You're not even a sibling - your husband is!  Send him to have a good time.  Use the money you would have spent on your tickets on a pedicure or cute babyshit.

I'm late, but wanted to chime in. I agree with PPs that you probably should skip it. Who cares what DH's family thinks?

However, if you go, I would suggest you get a cooling towel. It will probably help a lot. I think you can get them at ***'s Sporting Goods.

This sounds like absolute Hell. I'd end up so bitchy with everyone. That would be worse than staying home.
