Diaper pref. for boys

My co-worker told me that the best diapers for boys are Huggies, and the best diapers for girls are Pampers. Do any of you agree with this? I was wondering because I want to start stocking up boy. Thanks!

FTM, so no personal experience but both of my sisters say Pampers are the best (total they have 3 boys and 1 girl).

  • We used mostly Pampers with DS. I thought they did the best at preventing leaks. I would try a few brands and find what works best for your little guy.

  • What! I never thought of different diapers working better for a boy or girl. I'm cloth diapering, and this is our first boy. Should be interesting.

  • I've used almost every kind of diaper with my boys and liked them all except for luvs. My favorites are huggies and walgreens diapers but I will use whatever is cheapest because they all seem to work for us. For newborns I liked pampers best, but now that they are bigger I like huggies/walgreens diapers

  • Pampers were awful for DS and we had so many blow outs in them. When we switched to Huggies, that never happened. We did start cloth with him at about 4 months though. The Target brand was also good too. It's really all about trial and error and finding what works for your little one.

  • We used Walmart for DS when he was a newborn, then went to Luvs. It's different for everybody. I would not buy too many of any one kind until baby gets here and you find what works for you.

  • With ds we used Pampers Swaddlers in the beginning and they worked great. We switched to cloth diapers when he was 3 months but still use disposables at night and on trips. We ended up switching to Luvs and they work just as well as Huggies and Panpers and are a lot cheaper. With this lo which is a boy also we'll start off with Pampers and move on to cloth around 2 months.

This! I really didn't like huggies. I've had good experiences with pampers for DS.

  • Eh, I think that's a pretty broad generalization.  As an example, we can't have DS wear Huggies as the ingredients make his little toosh break out in rashes.  We prefer Target brand because of this.  They have less fragrance, etc.  However they don't cover the smell as well!

Also, DS would also be contrary to your co-workers opinion.  We LOVED Pampers Swaddlers when he was a newborn.  Never leaked or exploded through them once.

  • It's all a personal preference. I have a 14 month old boy and only use pampers. I have dis liked all other brands.

  • With my DS, the only thing that worked for us was Pampers. Anytime I tried Huggies, they leaked, exploded or just didnt fit right.

I'll use Pampers again with DD.
  • We liked Pampers for both babies during the newborn stage, then preferred Huggies from then on.

  • Than you all for your great input! I had never heard of that before and wanted to get all your opinions, and see if this was even true.
  • We used Pampers and then switched to the Kirkland brand from Costco.  Neither Huggies nor Up-and-Up (Target brand) worked for our little guy.
  • Every baby is different. You'll have to see what works for your son.

I used Luvs with my boys! They are way cheaper and I've never had a leakage problem with them! I did used huggies overnights for night time.

The only time it made a difference for us with DS was for the first few months and Pampers worked best, everything else leaked. After the first 4 months it didn't make a difference except at night, the only nighttime diaper that works for us is Pampers overnight.
After 2years TTC and 1yr,2mo waiting for an adoption match, our blessing is here!

  • We've prefered costco's Kirkland brand since DS was a newborn.  Pampers never seemed to work for us.  I even tried a pampers yesterday (borrowed one of my friend's dd's) and it reconfirmed it even at age 2.  Pampers seem to fit narrower behinds and DS has a chubby butt and thighs.  It really depends on the child's body type.  I'll be trying Costco again this time around but if they don't work, we'll switch to something else.

  • Out of curiosity, what are the savings using Costco over name brand? We don't have a membership but figure we will get one this fall.

That really depends on if you find sales or have coupons.  Our Kirkland diapers are 22 cents a diaper when they aren't on sale.  But they go on sale, they are closer to 19 cents a diaper and then we stock up for a few months.  We rarely buy them when they are full price.  Pampers on amazon are closer to 25 cents a diaper but I know lots of moms who buy them using coupons or during sales and pay less.  For us, Kirkland diapers are worth it because we don't worry about blow outs and I don't have to waste time hunting down sales.

May I add that Kirkland wipes are the best thing since sliced bread.  Even if you don't like their diapers, the wipes kick @$$!  They are larger than most wipes and are great for sensitive skin.  DS has eczema so we can't use most wipes (even pampers sensitive make him break out in a rash).  I carry a pack of those wipes every where!!
