My DD is 6 months and she has been eating solids for about a week and a half. She started with twice a day about an oz both times, we just upped it to 2 oz each feeding but still only twice a day.
We started three weeks ago, minus a week when DS was really sick and we didn't do solids. We do twice a day at 1 oz each...pretty soon we'll up to 2 oz each time. And eventually we'll add a third time.

We started about 2 weeks before DS was 6 months. He will be 8 months tomorrow. We do BLW and he eats breakfast with me all but one morning of the week and dinner with us every night. Sometimes he gets lunch or a snack with me too.
So to answer your how many times a day question. Two, sometimes three.
I started DS on solids at 5 months because he was interested, and he took right to it and loves his purees.
He is currently almost 6.5 months. I am giving him lunch and dinner of solids. When he hits 7 months, I will probably start giving him breakfast too.
He is eating 2 to 2.5 ounces per sitting, plus a bottle (8 ounces). However, he is a very big boy and has been from birth. He has always been a good eater.
You are right that there are no rules, except perhaps to make sure that your baby is still eating the usual amount of BM or formula and not cutting back on that because he or she is filling up on solids...solids are still just for fun at 6 months. Once he or she hits like 9-11 months, you might start to see him or her cutting back on formula or BM and starting to really dig into solids for a larger portion of nutrition, and that's OK at that transitional stage. Right now, though, formula or BM is gold.
WE started DS on solids about 4.5 months. He's been on 2-3/day for the longest time. We do 2 for sure (B&D), sometimes I skip lunch if we're out and about and I don't have time.

Our DS is 7 months old and has been eating solids since 4.5/5 months. We didn't start giving them to him regularly until 6 months. He usually gets them twice a day, sometimes once.
We are trying to get him more on a schedule with having solids for breakfast, lunch, and dinner
We make all of our own purees, and he has started to be able to eat finger foods. Non-purees that he has had so far are: scrambled eggs, green beans, little pieces of chicken, banana, apple, and mashed potatoes
We started our son on solids when he was about 4.5 months old. He currently gets purees at lunch and dinner. We just started giving him a little oatmeal in the morning at breakfast too. He loves it!
We do dinner for now, I will probably add lunch in a couple weeks. No real reason, other than it's a hassle to handle with toddler meals too and he doesn't really need it yet. My kid is a chub, he's clearly not starving
My DD will be 7 months on the 23rd and she gets fed solids for breakfast and lunch. She started at 5 months. She enjoys cereal and fruit for breakfast and a veggie for lunch. We are doing combos for lunch now (ie: sweet potato apple puree).
It varies day-to-day, depending on what we are doing but typically he gets homemade purees twice a day, some cut up fruit once, and a bit of oatmeal before bed.

My DD is just over 6 months and has been eating pures and cereal for about 3 weeks. She LOVES it and can't get it fast enough. I give a small bowl of cereal and fruit for breakfast then she eats half a small jar of meat, half a jar of veggies and half a jar of fruit for dinner. She sometimes even cries for more after that. She is breast fed and still eats every 3 hrs.
Right now DS at 7 months 3 weeks gets solids 2 times a day but I am going to start giving him some at each feeding because he is going through a growth spurt and demanding more food.
We started solids at about 5.5 months, so a little over 2 months ago.

We do four 6.5 ounce bottles a day (sometimes five) and oatmeal cereal in the morning and solids in the afternoon. Sometimes I mix pureed apples or mashed bananas in the cereal. Our daughter is 6 1/2 months old.
