Flat spot WWYD

My LO has a semi flat spot on the back of her head. She sleeps 10 to 12 hours straight, so there is not much I can do about that.

I JUST got her to the point where she will nap alone in her crib, but she will only stay asleep if on her back. When I try her tummy she wakes up crying the minute I lay her down. After multiple attempts I get frustrated and she gets overtired.

I want to make sure that her flat spot goes away, but tummy naps seem to not work, and I hate to go back to holding her during naps, do she can rest on her side, and regress backwards after all of our effort of getting her to nap in the crib.

Its not a horrible flat spot, but its definitely there n I wanna fix it before it develops further into a problem.

I try my best to keep her off the back of her head during the day, so its only at night, but its still there.

    Have you discussed this with the pedi? Most flat spots should be worked on while the baby is still pretty young to get it to round out. That gets harder the older they get. We went through this too and had to make sure DS wasn't on his back during the day at all. nbsp;

    Yes, my pediatrician just said to make sure she is sleeping in different sides. It's not bad enough where a huge intervention is needed yet, or that a helmet would be required, BUT it is something that needs fixing.

    She sleeps on her back an rotates her neck back n forth so she does get some relief, because the back sides get some pressure, but I want to get her fully on her side, so the back sides are not getting flat either.

    This kills me!

    We stressed over this too. Our pedi said that DS literally could never be on his back or rested on the back of his head while he was awake so that's what we did. Night time was too difficult but during the day we did tummy time, carried him, wore him or constantly changed how he rested his head. You just need to be on top of it!

    Ya, I should try wearing her! Thanks

  • I do tummy time as much as he can stand, wear him whenever we are out, take him out of the carseat as much as possible while out, I let him sit up straight in his high chair with toys on the tray, we use the Bumbo a lot and the exersaucer. He is also a great sleeper but hates being on his belly. He moves a lot in his sleep on the crib so I am hoping that and keeping him off his head during the day will help.

  • i first noticed our LO flat spot at 3 weeks and i religiously did repositioning all day and at night, he slept on his side and we did daytime babywearing for 3 months and at a 3 1/2 month appt the doctor pretty much determined it was getting worse.   his wasn't severe but it wasn't mild either.  we decided to get him a helmet and now 3 weeks later his flat spot is completely gone.  he just needs to wear the helmet for 1-2 more weeks.  i'm just telling you so that you know if the repositioning doesn't work there are other options out there.  a lot of insurance companies are now covering them. ours covered 90%of the cost so it was only $280 out of pocket.
