Didn't pass A/S ::frowny face::

Infrequent poster but frequent lurker LoL

Went for our anatomy scan today and we were told "the heart didnt pass." So we can either wait 2 weeks and have another U/S at the OB office or see a perinatologist.

WTF is up with "didnt pass"?? I have no idea what that means and it freaks me out! I am aware that the tech can't tell me results. She said the doctor will call me in 1 to 3 days but I am so impatient and I want to know now!!!

ETA: 1 to 3 days not 13 days. I forgot punctuation doesn't show on mobile.

That is insane to me that the tech used that term w no explanation. And why do you have to wait 2 weeks to talk to your dr? I would put a call into your dr today for an explanation. You should not have to wait 2 weeks that is unacceptable and I would not stand for it!
  • It could just mean that they couldn't get proper/clear measurements.

I'm hoping it means that they just couldn't get clear measurements. That's been the case for my a/s and I will be going back again in 4 weeks. I'd call my OB and ask what it means though.

    This.

Where I live we have a dr on site that will come out and talk to you if there are concerns with our A/S.

There is no way I'd wait, I would be on that phone expecting answers asap. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this.

  • Definitely call your OB's office.  You deserve answers before 4 weeks.  That's insane--especially if you need to be referred to a specialist.

  • Thanks. I am going to hope it is just a measurement issue. I left a message for my OB but his nurse said today is his busiest day so I hope he calls back soon.

What a ridiculous thing for an ultrasound tech to say. They should either be able to tell you some kind of result or just say NOTHING. She should have said that the dr. would call you in x amount of time and that. is. it. Now you're expected to just sit around and wait to wonder WTF that means?

I am SO GLAD a real doctor is doing my A/S. That is just messed up.

Not sure if this is the same thing by my doctor told me we would schedule another ultrasound in 4 weeks because we couldn't get accurate measurements of all the chambers of his heart. He assured me that he is not worried but just thinks the baby was moving a lot and is still a little too small for all the measurements. I was 17 weeks when that happened. Maybe it's the same for you? Sending positive thoughts your way.

  • I'm sorry that happened. Hopefully they just couldn't see very well. If I were you I would INSIST on a fetal echocardiogram done by a pediatric cardiologist to be sure. (I have a child who was born with a heart defect that is only diagnosed 50% of the time via ultrasound...we didn't find out until birth) He is fine now, really hoping your little one is healthy and this is an unneeded scare.

  • The way they worded that would scare the crap out of me.  :(  I'm sorry they wouldn't give you a better explanation.....hopefully it turns out to be nothing!!

  • I just wanted to chime in as another person whose tech had trouble getting good heart measurements/images.  The tech told me that it had to do with the baby's position, but she wasn't overly concerned.  She thought maternal fetal medicine might want me to come back in, but I guess they could interpret them Ok because they didn't call me back.  She did have to try a couple of times, and had me turn on my side, walk around, and use the bathroom to try to coax her into a new position.

Looks like this is fairly common and hopefully that's all it is in your case, too.  Fx that it works out and that you get a call back and explanation soon!

Um yea that is awful. I'm thinking she meant she couldn't get correct measurements and that they might need to redo it. Call your doctor until you get an answer. I know if there is an issue with baby's heart, they can give an echocardiogram. I had one with DS and I will need one with this one but it has to be done at 22 weeks.

  • This is exactly what happened to me today at my A/S. Baby was extremely active, but wouldn't flip or move enough to measure the chambers of the heart. She said she got an image "still" of it, but they like a video?? She said Radiologist may call me to do a follow-up visit. Of course I was worried so I decided to just ask, "but everything looks ok?" because I knew I would worry otherwise and she said, "Oh yeah, nothing to worry about, I just don't know if Radiologist will be OK with what I got". I had to do toe touches, shift from side to side, and she finally just gave up since it was taking so long. Sounds like this is really common, so I feel better reading these posts.
