I used old t-shirts (rags)and threw them out in that situation, which is probably even worse... but it's so gross. I hate having the temptation of having paper towels in the house, but sometimes that sh!t just gotta go in the trash!
I still use paper towels, but I think if I was completely out, I'd grab some recycled gift tissue. I reuse ours until it has holes in it. DH's family laughs when I start collecting it after everyone opens Christmas gifts, but I am cheap!
I just used huge bunches of toilet paper so I could throw it out. It kept falling apart and I kept having to pull more off the roll, LOL. Not very green, but I just couldn't put it in the washer. Baby poop yes, cat vomit no. I guess that's where I draw the line!
Oh we definitely still have paper towels in the house. And it's for dog vomit and pee!
We use kitchen cloth exclusively though and that's been great. Well except for things like bacon grease. We don't save it and it doesn't come out of cloth, so paper towels clean up that mess well!
I haven't gotten around to trying unpaper towels yet, although I'd definitely like to. I will never be completely paper towel free, though, for times like this!
We mostly do dish towels, hand towels, cloth napkins, etc. But sometimes a paper towel is the way to go, especially when it involves pet accidents. (Also the other day my husband painted an oil painting and they were handy for the clean-up).
I'm pretty headstrong about a lot of the enviro-stuff in my household...
BUT...
When the cat decided to bring in a dead mouse to proudly show off to us and leave it on our kitchen floor, I was REALLY happy that there was some Clorox in my basement.
There is no way I was trusting vinegar in that situation when DD crawls on the floor.
I try and be so Eco friendly at home, but at work, I'm a beauty therapist, I go through so many paper towels, tissues, cotton balls etc, I always feel bad!
