8 month old and milk

Hey everyone! My LO will be 8 months tomorrow and is still breast feeding but also eating pured foods. I'm just wondering if anyone else is still breast feeding and if yes, how much is your LO eating? I feel like she isn't taking in enough milk each day. She eats 2 times in the morning occasionally once in the afternoon and a little bit before bed... I'm a little worried about it..

Re: 8 month old and milk

  • My LO is getting about 24 ounces of breastmilk (about the same as before we started purees).   He is also eating 2 4oz servings (breakfast/dinner) of purees and a bed time snack (bananas and oatmeal).  My Pedi told me that by 8-9 months he should be dropping down to 16-24 ounces.

  • LO is about 7.5 months. He nurses a minimum of 6 times a day. Plus once or twice MOTN.

He also eats whatever table food we are eating at each meal.

Ive read that some babies go down to 4 milk feedings a day around this time, but we aren't one of them.

Plus, with the massive heat wave currently here, LO needs more to kee hydrated, and I'd rather he have breast milk than water.

my DD is still BF. she gets breastmilk 5 times per day plus a puree in the morning for breakfast and table food in the evening for dinner. i think she is just now starting to want a "third meal" and will sometimes have a small snack in the middle of the day.

This is us, exactly. 5 nursing sessions a day, sometimes one MOTN as well.

  • My LO is about a week away from 8 mo. I have the same fear that you do. She gets pures twice a day and I let her eat as much as she wants. She can actually eat a LOT 45 oz in a sitting, although she doesn't have that much at every meal. She usually only nurses 5 times in a day now and for much shorter spans 610 minutes per side. I don't know if that's normal, but that's the pattern she has sort of fallen into.
