Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Weird 4 month regression question

So, for the past few days I've noticed my daughter wakes up right after I put her down and is moving around when I leave at 445 am. However, neither of those times is she crying ...I might hear some babbling cooing or maybe light fussing but never crying. Today her naps were bad, but again I always leave her after she wakes up from short naps for 20 min...provided she woke up and wasn't crying...and while she didn't fall back to sleep she was cooing and babbling.

I'm assuming this is some sort of sleep regression? Has anyone else experienced this with the 4 Month regression? Awake more, but not really crying? She just started rolling back to tummy, is grabbing more, talking more, etc. she doesn't have sleep props and can't fall asleep well if I'm holding her...

Just seems odd. She definitely seems a little sleepy but not particularly cranky

Re: Weird 4 month regression question

  • My son is going through what I am convinced of is the 4 month wakeful, he used to be a perfect sleeper.. but the last week has become such hell that while I am literally going crazy. That mixed with my sometimes insomnia that loves to come at inopportune times.. I just sigh while trying to spend an hour to put him to sleep... then for him to only sleep for 10 minutes the second I put him down.

At night he is waking up 3-4 times, when a week ago he was sleeping through the night. He doesn't cry, most times, just up.. and his new awake for the day is now 4am. I have to spend two hours entertaining him then or he will just fuss. During the day he wakes up happy, but quickly turns into fussing until he is back asleep.. which is like 2-3 hours later.. I have tired to put him to sleep earlier.. later.. in between.. but he fusses falling asleep too.

He has bags under his eyes. I have bags under mine. We both look like raccoons.. well, I do more. I miss my easy sleeper.

Sorry for the rant, just need to vent. But yeah, my son wakes up sometimes happy as could be.. babbling and screaming... and fake coughing.

Lol the fake coughing!! What is that!! She does it too. My husband was like is she sick..and I had to explain that for some reason she's making herself do it.

It's 445 am and she's in there babbling...but I think she may fall back asleep...

  • I also want to clarify what makes it weird is that she isn't crying at all...so I don't wakeyo with her but I know she's sleeping worse. She either is still falling asleep just fine or putting herself down just waking up more often and amusing herself

  • J is put down for a nap, will be totally out, and in 5 minutes wakes up and starts playing with his feet. Feet are very interesting I guess. I think that this is normal for a 4 month old.

  • DD is 3 1/2 months, so I don't know if it's too early for the 4 month stuff, but last night she woke up in the middle of the night and was WIDE awake and talking/babbling SO LOUD!!   It was the weirdest thing!  She was really happy, but it was the middle of the night! We tried everything to get her to fall asleep again, but nothing worked until she became tired again.

  • yeah, at this point we just turn the monitor waayy down so we can't hear it, and let her babble away. I can always hear her if she cries (wakes me up from a dead sleep) so I figured if she needed me, she'd let me know. So she probably just babbles herself to sleep-so I have no idea how much she sleeps at night.  When I got back from the gym at 630 my husband said she had woken up again around 6 but fell back asleep.

  • Yep, we're going through it now and went through it with DS1 too. Just waking earlier/more often, but not necessarily upset.
  • My LO did that in the beginning. I was told by my dr that it may not be eating enough to keep her full. I breastfeeding so I can't tell ow much she drinks. So I downloaded this similac app and it times it for me. And now she sleep 30 min to an hour. I don't let her sleep longer than that.

Make sure your watching for the sleeping cues! That helped me a bunch!

I bottle feed and offer her 8 oz around 730, 12, 330/400 and 7/730 every day. She usually takes between 6-8, never less and never wants more if I make it. Her intake overs about 28 oz a day.

She naps at least one full cycle, but since this wakeful thing happened she just hasn't been able to transition as well. I give her an opportunity after she wakes up to drift bak to another cycle but if she doesn't fall asleep after 20 minutes I go get her.

Why don't you le your LO sleep more?
