Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Poop and sleep question

I was wondering, if and when your LO stopped pooping often and went down to big ones every few days, do you remember of it coincided with changes in their sleep patterns? The pedi told us babies sometimes to get where they're only popping once a week at most, and DD seems to have reached this point. But her sleep is also all screwy, I'm not sure if that's just because of a regular sleep regression or what.

She's 7 months, but I wanted to ask here since there may not e as many moms having dealt with it on my board. Thanks!

Re: Poop and sleep question

  • My LO usually poops every morning.  He sleeps through the night and when I go in to get him in the morning, he has pooped.  If he hasn't pooped yet by then, he typically will after breakfast.  It's rare if he doesn't poop every day.  I haven't heard of expecting it to go down to once a week.  If my LO didn't poop for an entire week, or even a few days, I would be worrying about him just because it would be so out of the norm.

I've never made any associations between his sleep and his poop.  He started sleeping through the night at 8 months.

  • I would think this greatly depends on if you BF or FF and the amount of solids. My DD 10 months is FF and gets some sort of solid or snack at every meal time. She poops once a day and occasionally will skip a day but never just once a week.

Edit: she's been sleeping through the night since 6 weeks so I've seen no correlation between sleep and number of poops.

DD is BF with some pures at mealtimes. And that's the thing, she's been STTN since about six weeks and pooping daily, as well. Now she's waking up three or four times a night and is pooping every three days or so. Maybe it's just coincidence then?
  • My son used to poop like 8 times a day for the first month or so and then it decreased to eventually once every 3 days or so. Once he started solids around 6 months then he started pooping once a day and has been like that since. He has only had breastmilk. I don't see any relation between his pooping and sleeping. He has slept through the night every night since 7 months and from 5 to 7 months slept through most nights. Hope that helps.

LO's poops changed when we introduced solids at 5.5 months. (BLW). He is now almost 8 months.

He is BF and pooped 6-8 times a day until he started solids. Then it slowed down. 4 poops a day, then 2, then every other day, now once or twice a week. He's not in pain, so there is no concern.

He does not STTN, but wakes once or twice usually. His poops do not change with sleep habits.
