positive test yesterday, negative today *UPDATE*

I took a pregnancy test (digital) yesterday afternoon and got a positive. I took another test this afternoon, different brand, also digital, and got a negative. I was shocked. Trying not to make assumptions either way, but what are other people's thoughts/advice on it???

*Update 7/17* Took another digital test this morning and got another negative.  I am going in to the dr this afternoon to get a blood test.  I should know by tomorrow if I'm pregnant or not. Trying to patiently wait for answers.

**UPDATE ON BLOOD TEST*
I went for a blood test this afternoon and already got the results back.  They said it was negative.  I am very confused.  No signs of pregnancy or period. Reading a "PREGNANT" on a test and not being pregnant is really throwing me off....

  • Take another test tomorrow morning when you first wake up and your urine is really concentrated if it is negative then wait a few days and see if AF shows up. If it doesn't test again in a couple of days (if you can wait that long). Maybe your urine was really diluted this afternoon and the test didn't detect the HCG.

It is possible that your urine was more diluted the second time around. Did you use fmu?

  • Stop peeing on things. Wait to see your doctor and take their test. You will just drive yourself nuts with all the peeing.
i wish i could be joking but my dad is the music teacher at a church so he owuld be mad. we had sex, all the time how bad i know but we dont want to wait and he said GREAT OH KAY! and I was really feeling the wets? down there- too embarsed to say- but he acted like man.
  • In most cases, but not all, this would be because one test is more sensitive than the other. One can red positive while another negative especially really early in the pregnancy.
Most pregnancy tests say on the box how sensitive it is. They range from 20mIU per ml to 50mIU per ml.

  • Digital tests tend to be less sensitive than dye tests, and different brands have different sensitivities. I'd try again tomorrow morning with a non-digital, and then make a doctor's appointment to confirm.

  • The same thing happened to me. I took a digital test at night and it was + and then I took another one with FMU and it was negative (same brand out of the same box).

I thought that was really weird so I went to the doctor and their test said negative TWICE that day and then since I am impatient I went in again the next afternoon and the doctors test came out positive.

Anyway, my point is, it's rare to get a false positive, but a false negative happens a lot. I would say you are pregnant and should go to the doctor :)

    Congratulations!

  • Digis aren't as sensitive as line tests.  Since it is still early, it's possible your urine was too diluted in the afternoon to turn it positive.  And I know it's hard, but you should really step away from the tests once you get a BFP.  If these were your first two tests, I would suggest running to the dollar store and picking up a (pink dye) test.  As long as that one is positive, step away from the tests.

I agree with first response using FMU. I also use the line one, not their digital.
