Glucose test!

Hello ladies! I know this is a popular topic! How many of you failed the 1 hour glucose test and then passed the 3 hour? I was pretty shocked that I did not pass, I generally eat pretty healthy. I scheduled my 3 hour test for next week. The only thing I was told to do was fast the morning of, which I did do for the 1 hour. Now I am reading online others were told to carb load a few days before the 3 hour? I just want to pass this darn test! I know a lot of it has to do with the increased hormones, and if you have it, you have it! Any tips or help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Re: Glucose test!

  • Why are you trying to 'beat the system'? It's for your own health and your baby's health. Follow their instructions, take the test and do what they tell you afterwards. It's not about passing the test, it's about your health.

  • I'm not trying to beat the system. I'm just finding different doctors told others different things to do prior to the test.

Yea it doesn't have anything to do with how healthy you eat unfortunately.
Just like people cannot get type 1 diabetes from eating too much sugar.

I hope you pass your 3 hour!

Hi! I failed my 1 hr (they wanted my number below 130 and I think mine was at 150+?) I took the 3 hour test a couple days later and passed every blood draw. :) It was a not fun test to take though. Best of luck!

  • The funny thing is I'm not a huge carb eater! I would say I eat whole grains moderately and always try to eat them with protein! I definitely do not consume drinks or eat a ton of sugar like the glucose drink we consume prior to the test. I definitely felt the effects of the drink, since I'm not used to that much sugar. Funny story about this girl I work with. When she was pregnant she ate 5 honey buns a day and passed the 1 hour. I don't eat that stuff and I failed! Goes to show it's mainly hormone related!

    Again...
It has nothing to do with your diet.
Diet will help IF you are in fact diagnosed with GD.
There is no way to prevent it.
You practically said the same thing in your OP.

Thank you...and to add to this...GD has nothing to do with your pregnancy hormones, it has to do with whether or not your body can produce sufficient amounts of insulin to decrease the glucose in your blood stream. Your body needs 3-5 times the amount while you are pregnant.

There are risk factors such as history of prior GD, overweight before pregnancy, history of diabetes type II in your family, older gestational age, and ethnicity...but theses don't always ring true.

Do what your doctor tells you to and you will be fine.

  • I have to take the Glucose Test in 10 days and I am fully prepared to "fail" it. Whatever . . .
  • Eat normally and then just don't eat breakfast the morning of, or eat something like eggs a couple hours before. I ate a banana two hours before and my "fasting" was 76. I couldn't have done it on an empty stomach, though. I failed the one hour with 154, but my first hour level for the three hour was 112...they want your level for 3 hours to be 140.

I know you really want to pass, and you probably will.
