Anterior Placenta

Alright, so I'm seriously starting to get hysterical about this ....

For starters:  We had our anatomy scan last week and everything looked PERFECT.  We are having a gender reveal party on Sunday b/c I just can't not know.

Anyway.  I was told I have an anterior placenta.  Fine.  No big deal.  But I haven't felt the baby move in 24 hours and I'm freaking the flip out.  I have never been so frustrated in my entire life.  It's like one day I feel the baby all of the time, and then I'll go 24 hours and not feel anything.  WTF.  My doc said it's most likely b/c of the anterior placenta.  Anyone else go through this?

itsmevkb let me borrow her doppler (thanks again!) and I picked up the heartbeat right away today at 150-160 bpm but because I'm crazy this hasn't given me much reassurance because I keep telling myself maybe I'm using the doppler wrong or something and well, have I mentioned I'm crazy?

I want to cry.  I just wish this kid would move all day, every day so I could feel him/her.

Re: Anterior Placenta

  • My baby a had an anterior placenta and his movement was so hit or miss. Some days, he'd be punching all day and others if be convinced he was in trouble. But, I'm almost relieved the placenta was anterior because that kid is a bruiser on the outside!!

  • DD was incredibly lazy in utero. I did not have AP and still could go half a day without feeling her move, even in 3rd tri. If I followed the advice about calling the OB when you haven't felt movement in a few hours, I would have been calling them every day. When I got really worried, I pulled out the Doppler because DD hated it and would always move to try to get away from it!

I didn't have AP but had friends who did. That is the cause of not feeling movement. It's there, you just can't feel it. And you're doing the Doppler right. It's normal to worry. But try to relax and get excited for your big gender reveal! Woohoo! I expect pictures!

I had an AP and didn't feel movement until 24 wks and even then it was sporadic.  Totally normal.  I'm surprised you can feel movement so soon- so I wouldn't worry at all.

Even later on in pregnancy when I was 32 wks, some days I'd hardly feel movement.

Oh sweet Jesus.  Do not tell me that (lol).  This is going to be a loooooooooong few months if I can hardly feel this kid into week 30.  Thanks for the reassurance though!

Exactly all of this. Lol. So sorry worry keeps you from enjoying this pregnancy to the fullest. With DS I was a mess the whole time too and worried about everything. It was not easy. I was told he wasnt a viable pregnancy in the beginning because his numbers werent doubling. Then from 8 to 18 weeks I had bleeding off and on weekly and many trips to the ER. Then when I finally felt him starting to move around 21 weeks it would be hit and miss. Finally towards the end of my second tri I felt less worried and then he was born 5 weeks early and spent time in the NICU. All this to say I hear ya about the worry. Maybe make little milestones along the way to help like looking forward to the big reveal party. I know its easier said than done. Also I would drink something with lots of sugar like sugar water and he would kick more. Hugs.

  • Baby A had an anterior placenta so it was difficult to feel her move. Baby B just never moved much. Even on BPPs. At the end of my pregnancy we would sit there until time was almost up looking for the slightest movement. Once the u/s tech even had to pull out this vibrating gizmo to get her to move. I had to make a trip to L&D once because the babies just weren't moving. It made me a wreck at the end - especially since I knew that twins had more risks. If you hear a HB on the Doppler I really wouldn't worry. Have fun at your gender reveal!!!

  • UUUUUUUgh.  I totally appreciate all of the reassurance from you guys.  I'm just frustrated because I felt my other bambinos all of the time much earlier (had posterior placentas the first two times).  I can remember watching my daughter poke out of my belly at only 18 weeks.  Lately I'm lucky if I feel a couple of pangs in an entire day which makes me even more annoyed because I went like 4 days in a row where I was feeling the baby multiple times in a day. Now I can probably count on one hand how many times I've felt it since Sunday.  Makes me a nervous wreck.

  • Yep another one here!  It drove me & my Dr. crazy, they had me in & out all the time.  I am glad you have the doppler to check things out & give you some peace of mind :)

I had an AP and rarely felt my daughter.  She is a 26-weeker, so I only really felt her a handful of times while I was pregnant.  I'm pretty sure that had I been able to carry her longer and/or to term, I would've been able to feel her more.

GL! Try not to drive yourself TOO crazy.  Smile  We did a gender reveal party where we learned what we were having and it is super fun! I hope you have a great time!

  • I, too, have an AP and didn't feel definite movements until around 21 weeks. After that it was really sporadic until around 26 weeks and since then I feel her every day, but some days definitely more than others. Her "lazier" days always get me a little worried and I pull out the doppler just for reassurance. I've read a lot about other women feeling like there baby is like a 'gymnast' or 'kick boxer' in utero, but I'm now 35 weeks and I've never had any painful jabs or kicks. It just feels like she's stretching and pushing and most always in the same spot - my upper right side of my stomach. Every baby is just so different! Even though it's hard, try not to compare yourself and your pregnancy to others! :)
