  When we potty trained DD1, we had both a ring that goes on the toilet and a potty chair, but she really preferred the ring so I got rid of the potty chair. DD2 will sit on the potty before her bath and wants to sit on the potty whenever her sister goes. She rarely does anything on it, but I'm happy she willingly sits on it.

  We have a ring insert and a chair (both Baby Bjorn). DS GREATLY prefers the little chair, probably because he feels more in control with his feet on the ground and can get himself on and off. He actually uses it every morning and not-so-regularly throughout the day if we're home.

  I'd recommend getting both and seeing which your LO prefers.

  The one that we're using is from DD when she was training - like the PP we also have both the little potty and the one that goes on the seat.  One thing to remember is to also get a little step stool so that getting on the potty is easier..
