I'm a rude jerk

Yesterday, everyone was told I'll be leaving. So this morning our admin comes in and says, did you even think about your 401k and how you're not fully vested? I am the youngest perosn here, and often treated like a child. I won't be fully vested until next April...anyway my new job is 1/3 the commute and includes a 30% raise. I was just so annoyed with the condescending tone. Ugh. I tried to be nice after, but my reaction was not the best.

Re: I'm a rude jerk

  • I wouldn't wait that long to be fully vested if I had a much better offer either.

Sometimes I think employers take employees leaving too personally. It's not personal, it's business. They have to try to make you feel bad to make themselves feel better. It's like they're being rejected.

ETA what are they even contributing, 3 to 5 percent? That is not worth sticking around for IMO.

Exactly. If I were in your situation, I would have made the same decision.

    I agree!

I had a manager who would go on and on every time someone put in their notice. "I can't believe they'd quit without having a new job lined up!" How does he know?

  • Thanks ladies.  I feel better. :)
