GD Level 2 Ultrasound

Finally my doc confirmed GD. My glucose levels are:
On fasting: 104
1st hour: 213
2nd hour: 141
3rd hour: 186
Failed 3 out of 4. Not sure how bad did I fail but my doc called and asked me to consult diabetic consultant. She also recommended Level 2 Ultrasound. I heard level 2 is for high risk patients. I didnt had any problems throughout my pregnancy except for having PCOS before getting pregnant. And I am now suddenly a high risk patient. I am so damn scared now. Hope the little guy's doing good in there.

Re: GD Level 2 Ultrasound

  • GD isn't that bad. I had it last time while pg with ds. I was able to control my GD with diet alone. I also have PCOS, and understand that a lot of women that have it get GD. Really try not to worry too much.

    Good luck Smile

  • They are probably just considering you HR at this point due to the GD. After the level 2 u/s they may decide that you're not. Try to not worry too much about it. The diabetic consultants will explain everything and help get you on the right track.

  • I freaked when I found out I was diagnosed with GD but everyone here has been truly helpful. Just stick with the diet they give you and you should be okay. I look at the US as an opportunity to see my daughter again:: mobile smiley::

You may want to check out the High Risk board. They are very helpful over there as well.

  • I have GD, and was told I would get 2 extra ultrasounds due to the diagnosis. I think it's recommended just to be sure the baby is doing ok.

No need to be scared; sad because you have to watch your diet and you can't eat mounds and mounds of Frosted Flakes. And as long as you regulate your sugars, you and the baby will be fine.

  • I cannot stop thanking you ladies enough. These days I am feelig much better with you guys around than my doc. Thanks a ton, I feel much better now. My appointment with the dietician is tomorrow but I tried out a diet that is online for GD and I am so hungry. I dont like choclates, I dont eat lot of sweets, but I eat a lot of rice. As a kid I couldnt sleep without eating rice at night. I think that is the main problem. Anyhow I have to do this for the baby and it is what driving me hard. Thanks all again
  • I ate a lot of hard boiled eggs with chipolte hot sauce on them! Lots of protein barely any cards.

  • I was diagnoised with GD as well. Just because you have GD doesn't mean you can't eat rice. You will learn more about serving sizes (for example 1/4 cup is one serving of rice)  and that you can still have the things you love, but just in moderation.

Of course everything reacts differently for each person, so you may find that what works for someone for a meal may not work for you. I thought when I was diagnosed with GD it would be life shattering...but it hasn't. I feel like I eat wayyyyyy more than I did prior, but its more like small frequent meals.

  • My doctor just referred me to a diabetes doctor for co-management today. My 3-hr glucose test levels were borderline. Two were under, two were a few points over, so he said better to be safe than sorry and make sure I am monitoring it. I don't know if a level 2 ultrasound is the same thing, but I am scheduled for a target scan on Friday morning and then an appt for nutritional counseling and all that jazz an hour later. Hopefully I can manage my sugars with dietary changes. I'm trying not to overreact, but the thing that has me the most upset is that this puts me at a greater risk of developing diabetes later on.

  • I have GD also. I was diagnosed at around 14 weeks. I have been on meds to try to control it. The drs will help you keep your numbers within range. Or give you meds to help. I was told that starting week 34 that I will have to go in twice a week for non stress tests and then an ultrasound to make sure she isn't getting too big and her fluids aren't low.
