Health & Exercise

fat, get off me.

Ok, I didn't have the best canvas to work with prior to getting pregnant.  But now I am just a mess.  A lot of the weight that I did lose after having my son (9 months ago) has come back since I've been back to work.  My main issues are: time, money and my appetite.  I work full time so when I get home it's time for baby time, laundry, cleaning, feeding the baby etc.  It's hard to get in a good nutritious meal.  My husband and I aren't veggie lovers and only really eat broccoli consistantly.  I'm trying to find some good recipes that not only I will enjoy but he will too and are also relatively easy to make.  Looking for some smoothie recipes also.  My workout schedule will vary by week but will be going to our complex's gym at least 4 or 5 days a week and walking with the baby the other days.

Any words of wisdom or recipes you'd like to share?  :)

Try a more primal diet - meat, eggs, veggies (broccoli is great! Try roasting your veggies - they taste much better that way) fruits and nuts.  Get your carbs from fruit, veggies and nuts instead of grains. Add some full-fat cheese if you want but you'll lose weight faster if you don't eat it. Paleo meals are pretty basic so they usually come together fast. Do you grill? That is a fast, easy way to make meats and veggies. I also make large batches of turkey burgers (modified version of the oprah turkey burger) or meatloaf. Try marinated chicken breasts, honey-mustard topped salmon, steak with salt, pepper and lime juice, curries with premade low-sugar curry sauce (I like Trader Joes' thai red curry).

  • Kate is right on point. Don't beat yourself up about not having time to workout it is hard to adjust to a new baby. Luckily, in the battle of losing weight your diet is way more important than your activity about 80/20. I would recommend oats for breakfast. They are so filling and set you up for less over eating through the day. I like mine with peanut butter and banana. I post recipes and have a whole post on my rendition of clean eating and how it worked for me after pregnancy on my blog :) good luck girl!

  • I plan my workouts for the week the same way I schedule other important things. I look at what we have going on and decide the evenings in going to workout. I tell dh and he helps me stick with it. It does help. Good luck!

  • Before I was married and kids, I lost 70 pounds to South Beach. I did again when I gained alot of weight with my daughter and lost 20 pounds.

I would highly recommend it. Also from your pictures you are gorgeous woman, so don't be so self-conscious about. :)

A friend at work recommended South Beach too.  I'll look into it.  one of my issues is I'm not a big veggie person, so it makes it tough.  Guess I need to start!

And thank you for the compliment!!!

  • I'm a working mom too- and it's a juggle.  I lost the first 30 lbs w/weight watchers. It was a big learning experience on how much I was overeating.  Now I eat about 80% clean. I know you don't like veggies, but maybe keep trying different ones until you find some you like. I've learned it's really in how you prepare them.  During the week, with the kids, I eat basically  the same thing every night: a lean protein, lots of veggies, and coconut aminos in the skillet.  It takes about 15 minutes and is delicious.

Try cooking in olive oil and garlic or if you like soy sauce, coconut aminos are amazing and SO much better for you!
