I've been reading more about this lately. I will keep G rear facing. The only reason I want her forward facing is so that I can see her! I guess I could go ahead and buy a little mirror :]

DH and I were just talking about this the other day, as B is almost too long for his infant car seat already, not to mention how effing heavy it is to lug him around in that thing! DH was surprised when I said they should be RF until at least 2 years old. He then mentioned friends of ours who have an 18 month old have their kiddo FF already! I think I will email her this link.

Good on you! I think it's important just to spread awareness, so parents can make informed decisions.
I have an acquaintance on facebook who was posting the other day about how excited she was to get her 11 month old daughters new car seat in because it was so pretty and posted a link. Someone brought up that it was only a FF seat and she said "dang, I guess I have to wait until August so she can use it. Unless I switch her a little early because it is so cute." My mouth literally dropped. I don't understand how people can be so careless with their children's safety. This was the same woman who at a couple of weeks old posted pictures holding her daughter in the back seat while her husband, who was driving, took a picture of them. I had to change my settings so that I can't see her posts anymore because they make me cringe. She is the wife of one of my DH's friends or I would just un-friend her.
This just makes me sad. I honestly feel like parents just don't KNOW, or they hear things and think it's just alarmist rumors. Sigh.
I had this conversation with my cousin who put her DD FF at 12 months. She said her legs were crammed and she liked being forward facing and has really good head control. I heard a great saying, it's better to have a Cast than Casket. Jackson will be rear facing til 2 years. He weighs heavy but is about to be 8 months and his shorts are still 3 to 6 months. He's just long.

If I had known kid #2 was going to be a girl, I would have gotten this in plum (we went gender neutral since our other convertible is plum)! I loooove this color. DH picked out the red/gray one (not sure what the exact color is called). I really like this seat except for the fact that I hate how difficult and long it takes to tighten the straps. Its the only seat that will fit RFing behind the driver's seat (with the angle adjuster they sell which is basically a piece of foam) when my 6'5 husband is driving. DD1 is going to be RFing this is seat for many years
Just thought I'd share a trick I discovered to tighten the straps. You have to do it before you buckle anything. So put LO in the seat, arms through straps, then pull down on the straps from *behind* the seat while gently pulling up on the strap by LO's feet. Gentle is key, because it's easy to tighten way too much if you pull too hard. Works like a charm!

Re: Extended rear-facing
I am going to check out more stuff from them for sure!
And on a related note, did I just drool over my keyboard ogling this car seat? I did.

I plan on keeping the boys RF until they are at least 3.
