  I gave DS one once we switched him to a toddler bed almost a month ago.

  DS has been using a pillow for a while now. It's an old, flat one (super fluffy ones would probably make me nervous), but he loves it.

  Id say it's ok to use.  We haven't started using one yet but then again he hasn't really shown any interest in it.

  Our pediatrician said once J could walk, she could have one.  (With the idea that if she can walk, she has enough control over her body to escape suffocation.)

  She did say to keep it small though so she can't use it as an aid to climb out.

  DS has been balling up his little security blanket and putting it under his head so I thought it might be time for a little pillow.  I bought this one from target but it hasn't been delivered yet.

  We gave Alex a pillow when he was 14 months old. He now has two in there and loves them. One of them is this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006VFSCY4/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (different print) and the other is a smaller square pillow.

  DD has had a pillow since she was 14ish months - she loves it and sleeps on it all night.  It's some toddler memory foam one that I got on Amazon.
