Cow's Milk

My LO doesn't seem to like it at all.

I've tried it cold, warm, in a bottle, and in his sippy cup. Nothing!

I've even tried mixing half formula and half milk to try and disguise it -- nothing. He notices the difference right away and tosses it. My friend told me to be patient and he will come around.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Is transitioning usually this hard?

Or should I just accept that my LO may not like cow's milk.

Re: Cow's Milk

  • Try mixing it with a higher formula to milk ratio. Just replace one ounce of formula with cow's milk in each bottle to begin with. If he accepts that, then you can slowly change the ratio one ounce at a time.

Agree to try this. I started mine off with 1 oz. CM with 3 oz. breast milk. Now, since I don't have experience with formula, I don't know how this affects things. But there are other types of milk you could try too.

  • We take a few blueberries or banana or strawberry and blend it up with the milk. It's still milk consistency but has a little flavor.
  • At 1 year, we went cold turkey to sippy with milk (she could already do the sippy with water).  DD did not drink too much at first, but now she will.  The pedi assured me that she gets enough calcium from yogurt, cheese, and leafy greens that milk intake isn't a concern.  She came around though and seems to like it now.

Kids don't absolutely need cows milk. You can keep trying, but I wouldn't force the issue.
    This.

There are other options out there for milk. If you do some research on cows milk, you might feel better about going with another option.
