Potty Training

We've been potty training my 2.5 year old son for about 2 weeks now. He has mastered day time training but we are having trouble at night. We have him potty 2 x's before bed then put him down. He has been standing up in his crib and saying " I need to go potty" as he pees. He gives us warning during the day but not at night. He is usually fine once he falls asleep... We put him on the potty before we go to bed (around 10:30 PM) and as soon as he wakes in the morning and that works fine. We cut off liquids several hours before bed... I just can't figure out why he stands up and pees before we can even get into his room when we put him down for the night.... Please help:)

    Night time is a developmental thing, not a thing you can train. And he probably has to go so badly that he can't hold it. DS does the same thing during the day when he's been playing too hard to stop to go potty. He'll start to pee and then announce it. Or he'll tell me right before he goes and we can't make it to the potty in time.

    He'll get it when he's ready.

    what does he wear at night, pull-ups? or just underwear?

    I don't think it's a good idea to cut out liquids entirely for several hours... 

    At 2.5 it is great that he's daytime trained but night-time training comes later.  My DD is the same age and I could not imagine putting her to bed without a diaper or pull-up (even though she often wakes up dry).

    He wears big boy undies at night. It's just weird that he can stay dry once he falls asleep. I'm wondering if he does it because he knows we will come in and have to change his clothes, the bed, etc. and he gets more awake time. We tried pull-ups last night and he did not want to wear them. He begged for his big boy undies so we let him give it another try and... sure enough he stood up and peed again before we could get in his room. We told him we had to wear the night time undies (aka pull ups) and he fought us the whole way. Anyway, he peed in his pull ups and then cried that they were yucky and he started to undress himself. We tried to put pull ups on again and he was having none of it. We put him in big boy undies and he finally fell asleep. We did our usual and put him on the potty before we went to bed and then again as soon as we heard him wake in the morning and he woke and made it through all of that dry. Anyway, it seems he has the bladder control for it...

    Maybe he's waking up realizing that he has already peed himself and yelling that he needs to go. Could be that he's not ready to make it through the night dry, that's a developmental thing that comes with age, not something that necessarily goes hand in hand with daytime training.
