Babywearing Question

We are going to Disney in Sept and I don't want DS3 to be stuck in the stroller the entire day.  I love my Boba Wrap but I'm thinking it will be way too hot.  I like the thought of the Ergo but it is way out of my budget.  I found one similar on eBay but it is from Hong Kong.  Any thoughts on buying one from overseas?

Any other suggestions for something I can babywear in that is a bit cooler and won't break the bank?

Re: Babywearing Question

  • Can you check Craigslist or a local parents board? People are constantly selling gently used Ergos and such for about 25 to 50 in my neighborhood. I'd probably go with a secondhand "real" one over a knockoff.

Check out craigslist or the online FSOT forum at thebabywearer.com. You will have to register to look. If your child is 3, a toddler carrier will be much more comfortable than an ergo. The toddler action baby carrier might be in your budget used.

  • I'm wanting it for my baby who will be about 8 months when we go.  I've been stalking Craigslist in my area for weeks and the cheapest I've seen is $60 for a used one.

  • Chinese knock-offs may not be safe.

I'd get an Infantino Wrap and Tie (mei tai) if you're on a budget. Or a used one of those - they're only $30 new so they go for ~$20 used and are safe, comfy, and cooler than a wrap.

  • Be careful about buying knock offs on eBay. They sometimes can be unsafe. I would check out TBW (TheBabywearer.com) for cheap carriers. Are you looking for a SSC(Soft Structure Carrier) Because you can do DIY Osnaburg fabric Ring sling or even a wrap to keep the price down. If you do a DIY RS make sure you use SlingRings size Large. There is also a swap on Facebook that you can sometimes find cheap carriers. They have a section for Babywearing on a Budget.

You will need an account at TBW.

If you really want an Ergo keep an eye on Babysteals and also Zulily. They had Ergos recently for 40% off.

I live in FL, and purchased the Action Baby Carrier. I like that's it's thinner than other SSCs, but has the tush support like the mei tai. The buckles make for easy in and out, meaning DH will use it. Bonus, it costs about $100 or less.

  • Kind of weird response, not sure if its ok, but on the cloth diaper board it seems to be.

I have an ergo I'm looking to sell. I used it twice and I don't like the way I fits my body. It's the blue organic one with embroidered flowers. It also has the hip extension belt. Send me a PM if you might be interested.

Everyone else, thank you for some great options and links.  I'm not completely set on an Ergo but I like that both my husband and I can use it.  During nap time I'm going to check out these other options and see what I can come up with.

  • I love my Ergo for quick trips, because I can just snap it on.  The thing I don't like about it right now is that LO is still too little to wear on my back and sometimes I just need my front free to do other things.

TJ Max had some of last years Ergos for much cheaper recently, might be worth checking there.

  • If you have a TJ Maxx or Marshalls near you you might want to check them as I have seen quite a few people post that they found Ergos there recently.  Btw, make sure to check out the babycare centers at Disney.  They are amazing places to cool off,get baby supplies,bf, etc...
