Cord Blood Banking Cost

Hey - I'm sure this is on here somewhere, but I'll ask anyway...how much are you paying for cord blood banking.  I keep meaning to take care of this and time is ticking away.

    We are donating our cord blood through the hospital, so that's free. We looked into the banking and it seemed really expensive and the likelihood of your family needing it, or of it being helpful to your family, is incredibly small unless you have a serious genetic disorder that you are already aware of. I think the initial outlay was closer to 5000 and then each year it was 500 to keep it stored. Have not found anything about storing it on your own. I'd suggest checking with your ob's office or hospital to see if they recommend a specific storage place.
