Just this morning for the first time, DS cried for me and started crawling towards me when I went to leave him at day care. It's so heartbreaking leaving him while he's crying for me . He will be 8 months old next week. Any tips?
I had to go with the "rip off the bandaid" approach. I'd give DD to her DCP, give her a quick goodbye, then leave quickly. Lingering only meant she would cry longer. The sooner I left, the sooner she would be distracted by anyone else and start to get better.
My DD had severe separation anxiety at about 11 months to 14 months. With daycare, I just made it a quick goodbye. The longer we made the goodbye, the worse it was for us. And I made sure that I did say goodbye...otherwise she would freak out when she figured out I was gone and cry longer. My daycare provider tried to distract DDas best as she could as soon as I left. She always had a favorite snack or toy ready for when I arrived with her and would get her into that quickly.
Although it sucks right now, I promise you, it won't last forever! Hang in there!
