How are u cleaning milk bottles?

I am sure I am not the only one who is thinking..."I am washing bottles all the time!!!!"

How are you washing / drying your LO's bottles?

I used to put bottles in soapy water and use a brush to wash them.  Then, dry them on a drying rack.  Once is a while, I used a Medela microwave bag to sterilize.  However, since LO's feeding went up recently, I am using Dr. Browns bottles, which are a lot bigger and come with tons of parts, so I bought a Dr. Browns Sterilizer which sterilizes bottles in 12 minutes.  I still wash bottles in a soapy water before putting them in there and it takes forever for bottles to dry!!!  Do I have to wait to pour milk until they are completely dry??

My kitchen has been taken over by bottles, ugh!!

Re: How are u cleaning milk bottles?

  • Haha. In those early days, we had an entire shelf in the fridge that was dedicated to the bottles for the next day. The boys were getting two types of formula and BM. It was so confusing! Now we are down to eight total and life is much better!

We use Dr. Brown's wide neck bottles and the munchkin dishwasher baskets. I can fit the nipples, blue tubes, and rubber circle thingies for six bottles in one basket and put the collars and travel caps in another. I also rinse the blue tubes using the little brush they give you. We just do a normal dish washing cycle, followed by our washer's sani option, on the top rack. Everything gets super hot, so we just lay it all out on our Boon Lawn drying rack overnight. We hand dry the bottles, travel caps, and formula pitchers before making the formula for the next day.

  • I just did soapy water and a drying rack as well. Sometimes I would do the medela microwave bags but truly didn't try those until 9 months later. I would of used sooner if I thought about it. They worked great!

    10/29/17 - Started process for IVF, got pregnant & miscarried a 2nd time since summer. 2/22 started stims - Menopur, Gonal F, Cetrotide - retrieval 3/6 - , PIO, estrace 3xday - FET 4/18 = Beta 1: 616; Beta 2: 1342 = BFP

  • I use Dr. Brown too (glass). When I was using 4 oz bottles, I filled them all up for the day (I think I had 7 bottles) and kept in the fridge. I did not wait for them to dry before filling. When DS moved on to big bottles, I would just prefilll the bottle with the amount of water I needed to make the formula per bottle. As needed I would put the formula in there, shake and serve.

With the big bottles, I have 12 of them so I wash in the dishwasher. I have an OXO basket for all the small parts.

I agree, I feel like we are ALWAYS washing bottles and pump parts. Ugh! We use the dishwasher. Run after dinner, then open up the dishwasher before bed so the bottles can air dry. Then pack in the morning.

I rinse with very hot water most times and use soapy water once a day. Twice a week I put everything in the dishwasher. I hate standing there and washing with the brush every single time so if I use really hot water, it gets all the residue out. As for drying, I use a drying rack and don't always wait until they're completely dry.

Up until about 6 months, I was letting them soak in hot soapy water and then scrubbing them clean.  I let them sit in the drying rack until completely dry.  I also cleaned bottles everyday because we only had enough for a full day.

Once I went back to work, I ordered more bottles and run them through the dishwasher every other day (I rinse them and then put them in the dishwasher).  We use the munchkin baskets.  Since I've been back to work, it's all about convenience.

  • Thanx for responses, ladies!  Washing bottles is a part of our life now, ha.  I feel like I am trying to find a fastest & efficient way to do everything (washing bottles & pump, cooking, clearning, etc) now and it's a bit frustrating when I cannot find a good system.  I wish there was a product which washes, sterilize & dries baby items in few minutes!!

  • Oh, the Dr Brown bottles were the bane of my existence for a year. Such a PITA to wash. You can fill them once they cool off from the sterilizer, although I usually only did that if I was going touse it right away.
