Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Weaning baby

My baby is 20 weeks now and weighs 10kgs(23lbs) and is 67cm.He always cries whenever he sees anyone eating and when food is put next to him he stops and tries ti grab.So am thinking of weaning him but also maintain his weight because he is way above his chart.

Re: Weaning baby

  • Baby shouldn't be weaned off formula or breastmilk. "Food before 1 is just for fun." They still need to get the bulk of their nutrition from breastmilk or formula. Solids are just additional after 6 months.

  • Are you from the UK? Because weaning means something completely different in the US than it does over there. Here it means slowly taking away the breast. Over there it means introducing new foods. So, if that's the case, it sounds like your LO is ready! But like PP said, solids are in addition to, not in replacement of, breastmilk/formula.

  • Are you sure your baby is 23 lbs?! That must be over 100 percentile for a baby at 20 weeks. My LO is 4 months and is 13.2 lbs.
  • From the post Im thinking she means weaning weaning.

Of course your baby can have solids, but dont make it a goal to have that cut into breastmilk/formula

     baby diets... holy frik.

My 2.5 year old is 25 pounds :/

If you mean no more breastmilk or formula, no.

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut

interest in food alone does not mean baby is ready for solids. Other readiness signs include sitting up unassisted, pincer grasp, no more tongue thrusting. Only if baby is exhibiting many or all of these signs should you intro solids early. Also, like PPs said, your baby still needs formula or breast milk until one year of age, at which point you can slowly switch baby over to whole cow's milk if you wish.
