Morning ladies!
Two random unrelated questions...
First, if you swaddled your LO, when did you stop? And when you stopped, did you transition with one or both arms out and then switch to a sleep sack or just get rid of it altogether? L sleeps fantastically at night with the swaddle on and I don't want to take it away too soon. I am not planning on doing it anytime soon but I was just wondering what other people did. Plus I'm thinking keeping him swaddled when we do move to the crib will help him with the transition??
Second, L has a very mild case of eczema according to the pedi. We were using J&J products but switched to Dove Sensitive bar soap based on the pedi's recommendation. Are there any other products out there that people have used and loved? The Dove seems to be working fine, but again, just looking for others' experiences.
Thanks and have a great Monday!
Re: Two questions
We stopped swaddling once DS could roll over from his back to his belly. We started with one arm, then two and then took it away completely. We never switched to the sleep sack after that - DS hated them! Once he realized he could have freedom, he wanted to sleep on his belly with no restrictions.
DS does not have eczema, but he did have super dry skin. We like the Aveeno bath products, but for lotion, we switched to plain old vaseline. The Dr recommended it after she felt the dry patches on his arms and legs. She said some lotions have an ingredient that actually dry out a baby's skin even more. So instead, after a bath, we slather him in vaseline and it locks in the moisture. It really has worked wonders!

Beautiful baby girl born 11.24.14
DS1 has eczema. His seems to be flared by oats, so we just avoid those. However, the pedi recommended CeraVe. We also stopped using any fragranced stain remover and lotions...myself included. If the flare gets bad, we just use a steroid cream for a couple of days.

Our perfect baby boys were born at 36w1d!!
My first was a bit of an odd duck and we actually fully swaddled him for at least three months and then let his legs out but kept swaddling his arms until I swear it was around 7 months. He would scratch at his face when he was tired so not only did the swaddling help him fall asleep, it helped with that as well. That, and although he was sitting on his own prior to six months, he was never much of a roller.
My other three have all been out of the swaddle completely right around three months.
Only my first had eczema which he's pretty much outgrown and we found that bathing less often (like every three 3-4 days) really helped along with using gentle bath products. It was probably around age 3 that he developed some really bad patches under his arms and on the inside of his elbows and then we were given some steriod cream. By age 5 he had completely outgrown it.
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
This Cluttered Life
I can answer both questions
Swaddle: We just did it when she was about 3 months old. We picked on weekend and it was a success. One arm out on Friday, both arms on Saturday and took swaddle all together on Sunday. I suggest trying this when it's close to his bed time and after he has the final bottle for the night because he should be pretty sleepy and it helps. My LO wasn't happy in the beginning, but I didn't rock her and simply closed the door to walk away. Now, she is a swaddle free baby!
Eczema: Mine had eczema type skin areas on arms/legs/face. I didn't change a soap but bought Baby Organics Eczema cream. It worked amazingly and her skin is so soft now, so I think putting Eczema cream everyday really helped!

My DH is a great swaddler, but me not so much. I can really only get the swaddleme tight enough so once my boys grew out of that I pretty much stopped. I would think that it was only a couple months we did it, although DH would continue to swaddle after I had given up.
I have only recently noticed some eczema with DS1 and he's 5. I have just been using a topical ointment on it. ETA: The Target knock off of aquaphor.
We were a late De-swaddler. We started doing one arm out at 4mo when she could roll. However, we had experienced such a headache with naptime until I started swaddling her for naps (around 4mo). Since we finally had naptime under control, we stalled at ditching the swaddle until last week (6m1w).
We use Baby Bee by Burt's bees. We have not experienced any skin issues.
