  At that age, a lovey is perfectly acceptable.

  My kids have small blankets (they call them b-bs) that they sleep with.

  DS has had a snuggly blanket since we figured out that's what he needed to sleep.  Then as he got a little older, he insisted on sleeping with his sock monkey, we let him, but by then he was capable of rolling over...

  We started putting a blanket in the crib at that age. Now he loves it. He isn't really attached to any specific blanket but he loves to feel anyrhing snuggly against his face when he falls asleep. It made me a little nervous at first but I have watched him sleep with it and he never puts it over his face, just close to it. I think the general consensus is blankets and stuffed animals are fine after 12 months.

  Mine sleep with lovies and have for quite a bit now. They've started to get extremely attached and DD2 likes to carry it around during the day sometimes as well. We let them have it in the house but don't let them take it out of the house (unless they're sleeping somewhere else).

  DD has had blankets since day one, and none of them turned into a lovey.  DC does let her have a blanket for nap time, so we send one in there as well.  However, lately she had become attached to Ducky, a one dollar hand puppet that I got at Target at Christmas.  She loves to have it in her crib and chats with it when she wakes up in the morning.  However, she doesn't take it to dc and still goes down or a nap fine there, so it's just a night time thing.  I, too, was worried that it would become a handicap, that she wouldn't want to go anywhere without it. So far it's not an issue at all!  As far chewing on the corner, I wouldn't worry overly much, a lot of kids do that.

  Around that age our LO started sleeping with his Thomas the Train...he brings a second train to bed for whoever puts him to bed. LO is fine at school without it, he takes Thomas with him int he car, then has to say bye to him and leave him int he car before going into school.

  I laughed at this because last night my almost 15 month old wouldn't go to bed and he ended up with 4 blankets and 4 stuffed animals in his crib.  This is not the norm but he usually has two blankets and one stuffed animal he sleeps with.....he loves being surrounded by his snuggly stuff
