Motivation to continue working during last weeks of pregnancy?

I'm still working, or at least kind of trying to, but a day away from my 37th week of pregnancy, I feel mentally checked out. I'd call it pregnancy brain to my co workers, but really I just don't give a fluck about work anymore. I kind of feel bad about still working, but I don't have a lot of leave.

Any advice on how to keep motivated or any other tips to work while dealing with being exhausted and achy during the last weeks of pregnancy?

  • By your 37th week, no one is really expecting much of you anyways.. Just try to get your stuff in order for when someone else is handling it for you and in the hopes that everything is managed well for you until you're back!  Good luck! And congrats for making it this far before checking out! I think I was done at.. oh, week 12. ;)

PP has it right!  By 37 weeks hopefully you have transitioned most of your work over and are just keeping things afloat until baby arrives.  Good luck!  and I think I check out about week 12 also on my 3rd pregnancy.  Big Smile

  • If you were not at work, you would be sitting home, just waiting to go into labor,  right? and considering babies can go 2 weeks overdue, that is 3-5 weeks of just sitting around waiting.  Boring.

So, instead think of your work as a way to keep your brain occupied until the baby comes.

Take this time, to do what you can, get your affairs in order at work, relax and try and enjoy the last few baby weeks you have.

  • I give you credit, I was home watching Lifetime with my feet up 30 weeks on. Hang in there.
  • You are making money and saving your vacation/leave time with the baby.  I know exactly how you feel.  I had a summer baby and the last few weeks were awful.  Since no one gave me any work to do, I was also bored at work and spent hours surfing the internet.  But then I kept telling myself that if I stick it out, with all the extra money I'm making, we could go on a nice vacation.

I worked up until the week before my due date.  And then my baby was late.  So I sat around home for 10 days bored out of my mind.  At that point, it wasn't as if I felt physically good enough to do anything fun, and as someone else pointed out, daytime TV is awful.

  • I'm in the same boat. 38 weeks. I'd suggest making a list of things you want to accomplish each day. The day goes faster when you're doing something.

  • I'm also in the same boat. . I'm 36 weeks and the past week or so has been tough with all the aches and pains and exhaustion. I just keep thinking that I am saving my time for when LO comes so I can spend it all with him rather than just sitting home waiting on his arrival. My due date is 8/6 so I plan on working at least until then if he still isn't here I may take the following week off.

    Hang in there!

  • My motivation was that I didn't like the idea of using my leave on time w/o baby. I know it sucks. A lot. But, every day you work is a day you get to spend w/baby. If you're not busy at work, can you get way w/doing some personal stuff? Making lists, paying bills, etc? I think I did a lot of that kind of stuff until the end. GL and congrats!

  • I will be doing conferences the week before my due date.  I would love to go into labor during a 12 hour day I will never get comped for. LOL. Working now equals more time with baby later.  Hang in there :) Enjoy the peace and quiet!
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • I remember how that was. I worked until 38 weeks, but I don't regret it because I think spending more time with your baby is better than sitting around being bored and pregnant.

  • I don't think any of my coworkers expected anything from me except coming into my office to ask random questions and see what was for lunch! My OB suggested I stay at work that way i wasn't home alone and I was surrounded by people, it helps with the mental health- forces you to shower and not seclude yourself. I went home at lunch one day with bad back spasms and i went into labor that evening.
