High-Risk Pregnancy

Single Umbilical Artery

We went for our 20 week anatomy scan today and found out that we potentially have a SUA. We are going for a level II ultrasound soon. Also measuring a slightly thick neck (nuchal fold) but not by much. Anyone else out there have a similar experience? Of course we are very concerned and scared.....

Re: Single Umbilical Artery

  • We found out on Monday we have this too. I actually came on here to follow up on a post from another person with the same diagnosis. I'm waiting to be scheduled for a level 2 with a perinatologist. I'm going to be monitored every two weeks starting at 28 weeks to ensure baby is growing. We should check in here regularly to follow up on our appointments. Sending you my thoughts and prayers.

  • Right there with you twin a has SUA. Follow up growth scan was good today. Both babies are pretty close in size, and they rechecked heart and kidneys. All looks good, but now I am back in 2 weeks because her fluid was a little low. I am getting to see a lot of my girls!

There were a few SUA posts last week on High Risk and 2nd trimester with some positive stories from experiences mamas if you are looking. Keep us posted!
  • Praying for you ladies!

  • My DD had an SUA and a choroid plexus cyst, so two soft markers. She and her twin brother are now perfectly healthy almost 3-year olds. They looked at the cord at every u/s but I didn't get extra u/s because of it since I was already having a lot since it was a twin pregnancy.
  • I have SUA and am now almost 37 weeks pregnant. This is actually pretty common. I have had no problems and my baby actually measured ahead on all my ultrasounds! I wouldn't worry about it too much.
