Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

um, sleepy 20 minutes after a fall...

is not good, right?

the twins and I were at a friends house, she has two girls, one 3 and the other 14 months (I think?).  the younger one was playing on the couch, leaning over the arm and took a dive onto their hard floor.  she cried immediately for a minute, and resumed play.  about 15-20 minutes later she got sleepy and fell right asleep.  I told my friend I didn't think that was a good sign, and she laughed and called me a paranoid freak (which I totally am) and said that her lo was probably just tired b/c she didn't have a good nap earlier and since she wasn't unconscious or didn't fall asleep right after the fall she's probably fine...that she'd look for vomiting, etc.  (I should add here that there was no vomiting...I asked several hours later).  anyway, just thought i'd ask for future reference (I hope never) was I being overly concerned?

  • It's fine to be concerned and ask questions. It's not like you decided to call the shots and get 911 involved over a situation that is (probably) no big deal.
"What are you having?" "Well the radiologist says its a healthy little human baby. I'm a little disappointed, because I really wanted a puppy." LOL

  • I think yes. A couch to a floor (unless she was jumping off the back) isn't that far. I have a hard time believing that'd get kid a concussion.

Also, my pedi says, if they scream and go back to play and their eyes aren't dilated they're just fine. He's always more worried about asleep within 5 minutes rather than 20.

  • I"m with you. I'm totally paranoid about that kind of thing.

  • If it was my kid, I would probably call the pedi just to be safe

My kiddo has taken several trips to the ER because I'm a paranoid freak.  Better safe than sorry.
