Skinny Kids

Anyone here with a skinny kid that they are trying to fatten up? My 4.5 year old boy has always been skinny and a bad eater until age 3.5.  Now he eats ok, but is still skinny. I give him Pediasure 2-3 times a day, but he just doesnt put weight on. The pediatrician isnt concerned because he is on the weight chart and is slowly gaining, but I am frustrated. Anyone else?

My boys are all very thin 3, 5, and 7. My oldest bmi is 1.78 percent. But they eat really well, and both good fats and lots of veggies. I am not concerned, as they are very active and are very healthy. We still have them on whole milk, and full fat yogurts.

  • Have you tried to get rid of Pediasure to see if he will eat better if he is not so full from it?

I forgot to mention that my youngest was failure to thrive at 12 months, and the pedia sure did not help, it only maintained his weight since it replaced meals.

We added per his gi doctor an appetite stimulant and the pedis sure and then he started eating again. But we never had a food issue, my boys have very fast metabolisms.

  • I am no expert but 2 to 3 Pediasure I would expect to make most kids not want to eat anything else.

  • Mine are thin, to the point I've been concerned.  Our pedi isn't worried so I don't worry anymore.
