Hello. I'm a first time mom, due the end of September. I was looking to see if there were any other mothers around where I live who would like to meet up. My best friend is pregnant and lives in Virgina, she attends a "first time mom's club" where they go out to dinner and chat. If anyone lives in the Sherrill/Oneida area and would like to try to start this let me know. I have some anxieties about pregnancy and labor and it would probably help to talk to some other moms. Thanks!

Thanks for asking, ladies. Beatrix is doing pretty well. (It is difficult for me to type that without worrying about jinxing her progress.) She is now 5 1/2 weeks old. She has finally started to gain some weight and was up to 1lb 9oz on Tuesday. Tonight is weight night so we'll see if she managed to gain any more. She is an active little thing which is good for her spirit and fight but also burns calories. Her Dr. has started her on fortifier to help her gain more weight. The steroid for her lungs is also contributing to some chipmunk cheeks.
She had self-extubated a few times which was worrisome but they were unable to transition her because her nose was too small. With the weight gain she is also now big enough to try CPAP. She's been on the CPAP for almost 48 hours and been pretty stable. If she can make it the 48 hrs without issue then there is a good chance that she can stay off the conventional vent and on CPAP and eventually the high flow nasal cannula.
Now that she's extubated we actually got to hear her cry for the first time. It was pretty cute!! It is difficult not being able to hold her and console her when she is upset but she does seem to respond to my hands on her or if I give her a binky. So that is something. I'll take what I can get and am very thankful for that considering a few weeks ago we weren't allowed to touch her that much for fear of over-stimulation.
I am doing ok but miss my home and my husband. It is hard to believe that I haven't been at my house since May 7th. DH is splitting his time between here and home to care for the pets. On Sunday he leaves for 12 days of training with Navy Reserve. I feel bad that he is going to miss those days with Beatrix. With her hopeful weight gain she might look like a different baby when he gets back!
I hope you are all doing well. I've been lurking and keeping tabs on your progress.

Thanks, everyone. She made it past the 48 hour mark on CPAP. When I went to visit her earlier today she was on +6 CPAP and 23% oxygen. During kangaroo care today they did turn her O2 up a tiny bit but was able to wean again.
It is hard to believe she is 29 weeks today! On of the nurses said we should be able to breath a little easier when she gets to 30 weeks. I keep praying that she continues to make good progress.
Today during kangaroo care she cried and for a second I thought, "What the heck am I supposed to do?" In the past I haven't been able to console her except by talking to her. I quickly began rocking and "wooshing" in her ear and it seemed to work. It feels weird to have a 6 week old daughter and not know what to do.
I know this is silly but NICU firsts are very important. Today I felt her gas for the first time.
When I was holding her I felt some rumblings in the diaper and had to smile. Especially when I got to hand her back to the nurse. ;p
