I have 2 DDs so far and we are about to start trying for number 3. I really like my DDs names but HATE the nicknames for them. I never really considered that so I would like input on our potential names to see if there could be nicknames that are awful.
FTR DD1 is Isabelle Grace. I call her Grace because "izzy" is like nails on a chalkboard for me. DD2 is Cecilia Rose. H and I like Lia for a NN but some people insist on calling her CeCe. In addition to it sounding super bratty to me, I used to work with a male nicknamed CeCe and let's just say we didn't see eye to eye.
Our potential names are Jocelyn Elizabeth or Sebastian Alexander.
Re: Potential names and their nicknames
I like Jocelyn. It could potentially be shortened to Joce and Sebastian to Seb for short. Keep in mind.
I think most people have their names shortened into some type of a nn. Maybe think of names that are one syllable that have less of a potential for a nn you don't like.
The only nicknames I know for Jocelyn are Josie or Jocie (Joe-See, Joss-ee).
For Sebastian, I think you are on the safer side because it really doesn't have any obvious nicknames (the way Cece and Izzy are). I knew a Sebastian that went by Sebo, and have heard of one that went by Bastian. But honestly, those seem like a stretch to me.
If it makes you feel better, my son has a fairly nickname-less name (Connor) and my daughter has a name with a million options (Katherine). We find people shorten Katherine's name all the time (as do we, we call her Kate) and never try to shorten Connor's.

No more TTC for us. We are done, and at peace, as a family of 4.

Typically I do just use Isabelle and Cecilia. Isabelle is 7 and from my first marriage, so I'm either constantly hearing izzy because I'm apparently the only one who hates it, or correcting all the people at her school who like throwing an A at the end. I picked her name and don't regret it but I am happy H at least goes with the non izzy thing since he knows it drives me batty.
And that CeCe guy was such an arse to me that I quickly squash people calling her CeCe when we hear it. And my H still works with the guy so he agrees.
Yea I get what you're saying. I guess for me there are personal reasons why I don't like the nns, especially CeCe but I don't go all Incredible Hulk on people who say them. I let izzy go for the most part, I just refuse to use it. CeCe I do tend to politely mention we prefer people use her full first name as we don't like CeCe, but if she decides eventually she likes CeCe I will go with it. Though I will still call her Cecilia myself.
I guess I was worried Sebastian would be too little mermaidish even though I really like the name.
I know one Jocelyn (adult) and I have never heard her called by a NN.
I have a friend from HS that has a son named Sebastian. He calls his son Sebass on FB and it makes me cringe every time (I have no idea how he pronounces Sebass, but in my head I say "Sea Bass" which sounds like he named his kid after a fish. ::Shudders::). I have heard Seb or Bass used as NN for Sebastian, both which are much less cringeworthy for me.
