biggest splurge you don't regret

It's funny, most things I was happy to go to craigslist for or get the middle or the road item new, but others meant a lot to me.

My biggest splurge was my Kate Spade diaper bag.  $$$$, even on sale, but it kicks my Skip Hop's butt!

What's yours?

Re: biggest splurge you don't regret

  • We spent more on the crib than I probably would have (and we bought the conversion kits). I am pretty frugal, but for some reason I just really wanted this particular crib, it was the only one I liked.

    I have a few:

Mamaroo.  My big girl`s loved their swing.  I decided to buy one for DD3.  She loved it and used it until 2 months ago.

City Select.  I purchased this at birth.  It has been to Ireland and is going to Italy with us on Saturday.  I have a 10 month old and custody of a four month old.  I added the second seat when Mallorie joined the family.

Britax Chaperone:  I love this car seat.  It is nice and safe.  The other seat I was looking at was a snugride 35.  I shopped around, found it on sale and had a discount coupon and ended up spending about ten more dollars than what the snug ride would have cost me.

  • I too purchased most of DS's things from Craigslist.  Our biggest splurge thus far is our city mini GT, which we bought when DS turned 6 months. Prior to that we were using his carseat plus a second-hand snap-n-go.  I was having a hard time justifying the extra $100 for the GT, but I'm so glad we did.

  • UPPABaby Cruz - to me it is the perfect stroller. I also like my Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bag a lot, because I love the print on it. I think it's important to have a diaper bag you like the look of, besides just being functional.

Our biggest splurge was the upholstered swivel glider for the nursery.  Best $700 we spent ever!

  • My Bugaboo Chameleon. The only thing I regret was selling it.

I sold it to fund my next best, Bumbleride Indie Twin. Hands down best investment. We do parades, rodeos from March to December and this is the only thing I can get through horse crap, gravel, grass and sand.

$175 for a Manduca baby carrier.  It replaced my Mei Tai that we loved when she was younger but wasn't fitting right as she grew.  The Manudca can adjust in so many ways it fits perfectly and my 4month old loves it. She is in it a few hours a day and for running all errands.  She slept in it a few nights ago while we ate out at a restaurant.

  • I love our Clek Foonf carseat. It was worth every penny.

  • BJCM GT Double and our Boon Flair high chairs. Would buy them all over again.
  • Where to start, ha ha.   My Grand Swivel Glider from Pottery Barn...$1200.  But this chair is AMAZING!   I will use it long after the nursery days.   I also went a little nuts with the Teutonia stroller and the nursery furniture.  I wanted furniture made in the US, and that did not come cheap.

  • This pregancy has to be my ppb diaper bag. I have gone through so many bags and purses with my three kids but this time I knew I needed something bigger .
Best thing we purchased of all time has to be our Phil and Teds double stroller . Hands down the best thing ever.
  • Wow... for me, back when LO was a new born, having the heat set to a much higher than normal temp, and now that it is summer, having the AC set lower than would normally. We pay for that every month but she isn't the only one who benefits from doing that. Also the hot water recirculating pump ... we have warm water immediatly now in the back of the house (as far away from the hot water heater as we can get). It is really luxurious to wash hands in warm water after diaper changes.

Am still waiting to do a super splurge on a super fancy stroller.

  • For me, it's the Medela Freestyle.  My commute is 1 1/2 hours each way and the portability of my pump has helped me make the most of my time in the car.

For LO, it's her crib and dresser from Young American (Cribs to College).  They're both made in the USA, North Carolina to be exact.

  • Our slip covered swivel glider by Four Seasons. It cost over $1000 but I spend so much time it it, I'm glad it's like sitting on a cloud! Next would have to be our Britax Chaperone and B Ready stroller, love both of these items so much!

  • Where to start?
My strollers (BJCM and BOB). I use one of the 2 pretty much every day.
My Beco. Was a godsend in the early months and I still use it occasionally.
The Clek Foonf. I just love it. An amazing carseat. DD loves it too cause it sits up so high she can see out the back of DH's truck.

  • Furniture.  We bought all of our daughter's furniture from Baby's Dream, the quality of the furniture is outstanding.  It was our intent to buy furniture that would take her from newborn to teenage years, so we purchased all of the conversion kits and two sets of dressers upfront.  We also invested in a glider, rocker, recliner (Little Castle Treasure) that we will eventually use in another part of our home when our daughter outgrows bedtime stories on top of our laps.

  • #1 for me has to be the Cooshee changing pad, which is unfortunately not sold anymore.  It was $60 and I still use it and love it, and I would buy another in a heartbeat if I could.

I also love my UB Cruz stroller with all my heart, but I also loved paying 40% less than retail for it, so I don't know if I would count it as a splurge.
