Mirena users, past and present...weight gain?

It has been forever since I posted!!! I guess that is what can happen when you have two kids running around! Anyway, I have had the Mirena IUD in for nearly a year now and I just feel like I am bloated and I have gained between 5 and 10 pounds. I HATE blaming it on the IUD but I also know I haven't changed my eating or movement patterns where I should have gained the weight. I also hate to take it out if it isn't the cause but I have read for many people on other sites that it has made them gain weight and the weight came right off after removing it. I guess I would love to know what other people have experienced or are experiencing and if you have had it taken out, how was the pain? I guess I have a love/hate relationship with it so I cannot decide what to do. Thanks :)

  • I have actually had weight loss, but I am sorry you're going through this! I wish I knew something to help.

  • Weight gain, stomach troubles, hair loss, ugh.  It was horrible.  I had it removed after about six months and felt back to normal within a week.  Good luck!
  • I never had weight gain did have some loss but I assumed it was breast feeding. I did have hair loss but assumed it was post pregnancy related. Andddd I also had it perforate my uterus and had it removed surgically! Yikes! It super sucked!

  • I'm C&P this from my BMB - this was my response to a Mirena question there:

I had mine placed in Jan 2012 and had it removed in Oct 2012.  I was fine on it for a few months and then it all went downhill.  I gained 11 lbs in 1 month, my acne went crazy, sex drive plummeted, stomach bloated, and I turned into a raging b!tch (I never get hormonal).

My period never went away fully while I had it.  I actually had it removed during my period for comfort purposes.  My sex drive came back pretty  quickly (maybe a month) and is better than it has been in quite a while now that I am hormone free.
