Tips for gently getting baby to sleep in crib

DS2 is only 12 days old so I'm not planning on pushing the crib anytime soon but want some tips for the future. He will only sleep with me right now which is exactly how DS1 was.

I am fine with bed sharing but would greatly prefer LO to at least go down initially in his crib in our room. We were never able to achieve that with DS1 (he would sleep in the swing though) and it made travel miserable because one of us would have to go to bed ridiculously early. It also meant constant night nursing for the first year which was exhausting for me. He slept in our bed until about 12 months when we successfully transitioned him to his own reg. bed on the floor. Any tips for this time around?

Re: Tips for gently getting baby to sleep in crib

  • I'm curious to see how others respond. I have a 5-week-old who co-sleeps (in a First Years co-sleeper, which is a separate thing that goes in the bed). I am slowly trying to transition him directly to his crib, in his own room. Right now, he naps in the crib during the day, when I can get him to. I hope that gets him used to it so the nighttime transition is a little easier when he gets older.

  • My DD always was fine to be put in her crib if she was swaddled and already asleep.  I nursed her, wrapped her up and rocked for a few minutes, and then put her down.  This was our routine starting when she was 7 days old and came home from the hospital.  We never co-slept when she was really young, so it was also the routine when she woke overnight.  I went into her room, changed her diaper, nursed, re-swaddled, and rocked to sleep.

Now that she's older, I do bring her into bed if she wakes overnight, but I only started doing this when she was about 1.  She still goes to bed in her crib.

  • I did lots of crib time when awake. I would put him in his crib and turn the mobile on while putting laundry away.  I just tried to make the crib a happy, enjoyable place while he was awake, so that at night it wasn't so scary.

I started with putting him down asleep and when he woke we would take him to bed.  At 5 months (since DH had off for Thanksgiving) we started putting him back in the crib after each night waking (whether he needed a bottle or rocking to sleep).  I also put a lovey in the crib that I slept with for a few nights.

My son would sleep well in the Fisher Price Rock N Play Sleeper.

  • My DS never slept in the crib. He is 2 and we still cosleep. However I have a 3 wk old DD and I refuse to make the same mistakes. She sleeps in her rock and play sleeper most of the time and its a life saver. The last few days I have been laying her in the crib after she is asleep a few times and she seems to like it alot and sleeps for a good length of time. I should mention i bf her and she falls asleep on me and then I move her. But lately she can be rocked to sleep in her RnP too.

  • Someone who will be gifted having an orange tinted cap experiences an enjoyable experience. In inclusion to ease and comfort, the cover offers fantastic utility. The pocket inside the ???????????? caps enables you to store every ?? one of the valuables like bank cards, keys, driver's license, cash, and so forth. The hats are used by boys if they play virtually any sport. They could be worn in the course of vacations to get a trendy and also stylish seem. They are usually of fantastic functionality in the course of treks and also camps. The most significant benefit is they can be used ????? ????? with virtually any outfits. The different ??????? hats caps is just great. It offers mesh hats, beanies, knit hats, stretch suit caps, and so forth. The caps can be purchased in large kinds with variable sizes. People confront not appropriate issues if they are used. They can easily fit any person in the simplest way.
  • Thanks all. We don't have a RnP but do have a FP Snugabunny swing in our room along with the crib. I've been trying both and he only sleeps for maybe 30 mins in either one. I've tried swaddled, swaddled with one or both arms out and also no swaddle. Doesn't seem to make a difference. If I bring him to bed with me, he sleeps 3-4 hours. Hopefully with time he'll start to tolerate the crib. I love having him close and don't mind bed sharing but it'd be nice to not be so locked down...

  • I don't really have much advice since my baby actually sleeps better alone in his crib. But like someone else said, you should just try it. Just because your previous baby preferred cosleeping, doesn't mean this one will.
