Low amniotic Fluid

I'm really nervous, this is my first Pregnancy..at my last ultrasound at 21 weeks my doctor told me my fluid was a little lower and told me to come back in 2 weeks to check the level with another ultrasound. I've been drinking plenty of fluids non stop. Did anyone have this issue? Should I be worried?

Re: Low amniotic Fluid

  • I'm pretty sure the amount of fluid you drink doesn't correspond to the amount of amniotic fluid you have.
It just happens with some pregnancies. My sister just had low fluids during the second half of her pregnancy and they just monitored it with an ultrasound once every 2 weeks to once a week.

  • I just found out at my growth scan today that our twin a has low fluid as well. Dr. told me the same come back in two weeks to check. I have been drinking more water, too, just in case. I will be 22 weeks Sunday. Good luck! Dr. didn't give me any special instructions, so I am trying not to worry.
  • During my first pregnancy, I had the opposite issue. Too much fluid! I too was monitored and it all was fine. Docs didn't know why I had too much fluid. Just one of those things.

Actually at this point the amniotic fluid is made up partially of LO's urine, so if you're dehydrated your levels can be low.

OP, guzzle water and clear Gatorade until you're eyeballs are floating. Once you think you can't drink anymore, drink another one. It helped My AF go from 6.7 to 8.9. AF fluctuates a lot, so your doc probably wants another scan to see if your levels have changed.
